Operator on Web Printing Press

Pressman on 6 unit Harris M300

Heat Set Web Press Basic Function :

Responsible for the crewing on the press, the maintenance and the production and quality of all material printed on the press. The pressman will lead the setup, make-ready and running of product to commercially acceptable standards within the allocated time and materials for each job. Must have had previous experience in running a web offset press and possess a good knowledge of press and folder set ups.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Check job production sheet and make sure the job is setup with the right paper, ink and plates. 2. Assure that all crew members are performing their assigned tasks efficiently and safely. 3. Set up folder for chop, tabloid and digest formats. 4. Oversee the bending and mounting of plates for precise registration. 5. Oversee the mounting of blankets as required. 6. Make sure all rollers and cylinders in the press are properly maintained. 7. Set ink as required so printed product matches color proofs to customer's satisfaction. 8. Register print in a fashion to assure customer satisfaction. 9. Wash blankets, rollers and ink fountains in a safe and effective fashion as needed. 10. Make color OK's and sign and maintain file of all form OK's. 11. Fill out all load markers accurately for counts and job number 12. Personally approve all office copies and accurately identify material with load markers. 13. Make sure that press is properly cleaned and maintained at all times, i.e. oil, grease, etc. 14. Supervisor Job Skills and Requirements:

Must be able to continually stand for eight (8) hours on a concrete floor. Must be able to read and understand written job instructions, use a calculator, and write legibly. Must be able to lead and direct a crew of three people, follow supervisor instructions quickly and accurately, work in a cooperative and competent fashion at all times, and work efficiently in a high noise manufacturing environment. Must have the ability to work overtime as required. Must have the ability to lift 70 pounds, climb steps on the catwalk and be able to get in and out of the press units.
