Job Description

Great Lakes Stair and Steel is looking for several additional experienced steel fabricators to add to our family owned/managed company. The opportunity is full time and includes mandatory overtime work. Business hours are 7:00 AM
  • 5:30 PM (M-THR) and 7:00
  • 3:30 PM (F). Some additional overtime hours on Saturdays are available at 7:00 AM
  • 1:00 PM.
Wages are paid weekly on an hourly basis; overtime is paid at time-and-a-half. Compensation to be based on skill ability and experience. Experienced applicants who test well will start at a minimum of $25.00 an hour. Higher rates are negotiable for candidates with more experience, those that can handle more complex tasks and individuals motivated to take on more responsibilities. Benefits include 401K with match, paid vacations, and paid holidays.
Responsibilities include:
  • Miscellaneous steel fabrication
  • we deal primarily in stairs, ladders and railings
  • Fabrication includes Reading blueprints, Laying out/Fitting up materials to complex assemblies, welding, bending, grinding, cutting, and prime painting
  • Contributing to general shop upkeep and maintenance
  • Helping with unloading materials as they come in
  • Maintaining materials and finished products in an orderly fashion Skills and qualities needed for this position:
  • Experience working with steel fabrication
  • 2+ years working in the industry
  • Fitting and assembling of structural steel and other steel assemblies
  • Proficient use of tape measures, squares and other layout and assembly tools
  • Reading and understanding fabrication drawings
  • Ability to lift and move at least 50+ pounds and to be on your feet most of the day (8-10 hour shifts)
  • Comprehension of blueprints and welding symbols
  • Friendly personality and willing to work as part of a team
