Job Description:
Position Summary The Fabrication Technician - Prosthetics & Orthotics is responsible for the fabrication, modification, and repair of prosthetic and orthotic devices, with a primary focus on lower extremity components. This role supports clinicians by translating work orders, measurements, and design specifications into high-quality, functional devices that meet clinical, safety, and regulatory standards. The position requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a production-focused healthcare environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Fabricate, modify, and repair prosthetic and orthotic devices in accordance with clinician specifications and work measurement forms Perform plaster mold modification, positive mold preparation, and shape adjustments as required Work with a variety of fabrication materials and componentry, including thermoplastics, laminations, metals, and composite materials Operate fabrication-related machinery and tools safely and effectively, including ovens, grinders, routers, vacuum systems, and specialized equipment (e.g., Troutman systems) Read, interpret, and accurately execute fabrication instructions, measurements, and technical documentation Inspect completed devices for quality, fit, and function prior to delivery to the clinical team Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work environment in compliance with safety and infection control standards Collaborate with clinicians, technicians, and team members to meet production timelines and quality expectations Adhere to all applicable safety regulations, quality standards, and organizational policies Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity Experience working with plaster, molds, and shaping techniques Ability to read and understand work measurement forms and fabrication instructions Effective organizational, time management, and planning skills Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in a certified prosthetics and orthotics laboratory or clinical fabrication environment Demonstrated experience in prosthetic and/or orthotic fabrication, preferably with a focus on lower extremity devices Familiarity with lamination techniques, thermoplastic forming, and composite materials Understanding of quality control principles in prosthetic and orthotic manufacturing Physical and Work Requirements Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday Visual acuity (near and distant) sufficient to read work orders, measurements, and technical documentation Ability to speak and hear clearly to understand instructions and safety information Adequate fine motor skills to safely operate laboratory machinery and precision tools Ability to engage in sustained physical activity for extended periods in accordance with applicable labor laws
Compensation Base Pay:
$18 per hour, based on experience, skill level, and demonstrated fabrication proficiency This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws.
