Job Summary The Maintenance Fabrication Technician is responsible for fabricating, modifying, repairing, and installing equipment, components, and structures used in a food manufacturing environment. This role supports plant reliability by performing metal fabrication, welding, machining, and mechanical repairs while ensuring compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Fabricate, repair, and modify stainless steel and carbon steel components used in food processing and packaging equipment Perform welding (TIG, MIG, Stick) with an emphasis on food‑grade stainless steel fabrication Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and schematics to create or repair parts Machine parts using lathes, mills, drills, grinders, and other shop equipment Install and align guards, conveyors, frames, platforms, piping, and supports Support preventive and predictive maintenance activities as assigned Troubleshoot mechanical issues and assist maintenance technicians as needed Ensure all fabrication work meets food safety, sanitation, and hygienic design standards Maintain proper documentation of work performed, including work orders and parts usage Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fabrication shop and work area Comply with all plant safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements Respond to emergency maintenance or breakdown situations as required Work collaboratively with production, engineering, quality, and sanitation teams Perform other duties as assigned to support plant operations Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school preferred Minimum 3 years of industrial maintenance or fabrication experience, preferably in food manufacturing Proficient in welding, metal fabrication, and basic machining Ability to read mechanical drawings, sketches, and measurements Strong understanding of mechanical systems and fabrication best practices Knowledge of food safety, GMPs, and hygienic design principles or willingness to learn Basic computer skills for maintenance systems and documentation Preferred Qualifications Experience working with food‑grade stainless steel (304/316)
USDA/FDA
‑regulated manufacturing experience Knowledge of conveyors, pumps, drives, and food processing equipment Familiarity with CMMS systems Certification in welding or fabrication (preferred) Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and crouch for extended periods Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 30 lbs with or without assistance Frequent use of hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, or noisy environments Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces as required Safety & Food Safety Requirements Must comply with all plant safety rules, including lockout/tagout and machine guarding Must follow GMPs, food safety, and sanitation policies at all times Required to wear PPE including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and food safety attire Work Environment This position works in a manufacturing and fabrication shop environment with exposure to machinery, welding hazards, sharp metal, cleaning chemicals, temperature‑controlled areas, and food products. $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
