Assembly Mechanic (Aerospace Manufacturing) Job Description This role focuses on performing complex mechanical assemblies for aerospace structures in a machine shop and assembly environment. You will work on the 1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., using hand and power tools to assemble, fit, and finish components according to detailed blueprints and specifications. The position requires a high level of precision, a strong work ethic, and consistent attention to safety and quality. Responsibilities Perform complex aircraft and aerospace mechanical assemblies, including work on complicated and varied assemblies. Read and interpret complex blueprints, specifications, and other work instructions to complete assembly tasks accurately. Lay out and drill holes in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications. Install fasteners, bearings, bushings, and other hardware, ensuring proper fit, alignment, and torque. Perform countersinking and related operations to prepare components for fastener installation. Apply sealants, primers, paints, and cleaning agents as required by work instructions and process specifications. Use a variety of hand and power tools to complete assembly processes safely and efficiently. Measure and verify dimensions using tape measures and other basic measuring tools to confirm accuracy. Maintain a clean and organized work area, following established 5S or similar housekeeping practices. Follow all safety procedures, including the proper use of gloves, eye protection, and ear protection at all times. Lift, move, and position parts and assemblies weighing up to 50 pounds as part of daily work. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to resolve assembly issues and maintain production flow. Meet production schedules by maintaining dependable, on-time attendance and consistent performance. Inspect completed work for quality, ensuring assemblies meet all specifications and standards before release. Essential Skills Minimum of three years of experience in aircraft or aerospace manufacturing assembly, including work on complicated and varied assemblies. Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, specifications, and detailed work instructions. High level of experience with layout and drilling of holes in metal and composite structures. Proficiency in installing fasteners, bearings, bushings, and similar components in accordance with specifications. Experience performing countersink operations and related precision drilling tasks. Hands-on experience applying sealants, primers, paints, and cleaning agents in an assembly environment. Proficiency with hand tools and power tools commonly used in mechanical assembly and production. Mechanical assembly skills, including the ability to use tape measures and basic measuring tools accurately. High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of three years of assembly experience, with four to five years preferred. Strong work ethic and a demonstrated drive to achieve high levels of performance. Detail-oriented nature with a focus on accuracy, quality, and adherence to specifications. Dependable, on-time attendance and reliability in a production environment. Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and to stand, sit, bend, kneel, squat, and walk on a regular basis. Excellent hand-eye coordination to perform precise mechanical assembly tasks. Commitment to following safety procedures, including consistent use of gloves, eye protection, and ear protection. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in aerospace manufacturing, particularly in an assembly and machining division. Experience in aircraft structures or aero structures assembly. Familiarity with production environments in aerospace manufacturing. Comfort working in both machine shop and assembly settings. You will work on a 1st shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., performing hands-on mechanical assembly tasks throughout the day. The work involves regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, and lifting up to 50 pounds. You will use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices in a production setting that emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and organization. Personal protective equipment, including gloves, eye protection, and ear protection, is required at all times, and adherence to safety procedures is an integral part of the work environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Wichita, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
