Job Title:
Assembly Technician Job Description The Assembly Technician is responsible for building mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic assemblies for food processing equipment by following blueprints, schematics, and written and verbal instructions. You will operate a variety of production line equipment, perform precision mechanical assembly, and support testing and troubleshooting to ensure high-quality, reliable machines are delivered. Responsibilities Assemble mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components of food processing equipment according to blueprints, schematics, and specifications. Operate production line equipment with the required level of technical complexity after receiving specified training. Assemble products, units, machines, equipment, and subassemblies to defined standards and tolerances. Mount and connect auxiliary, mechanical, electronic, and pneumatic components, including cutting and fitting pipe and tubing. Remove small quantities of metal using hand files, emery cloth, or portable grinders to clean parts and achieve close fits between components. Align components using bolts and screws with hand tools and portable powered tools to ensure proper fit and function. Drill, tap, and ream holes using drill presses and portable drills as required for assembly. Install moving parts such as shafts, levers, and bearings, and verify free and smooth movement during testing. Thread, bend, and install pipe for electrical conduit as part of the assembly process. Align and mesh gears within gearboxes to assemble complete gear systems. Test or assist in testing the operation of completed products to confirm proper performance and quality. Operate shop machines such as arbor presses, brake presses, punch presses, shears, cut-off saws, form rollers, and drill presses to cut and shape components to specified dimensions. Troubleshoot fit, form, and function issues on assemblies and provide clear feedback to leads and the engineering team. Follow safety procedures and quality standards while working in a clean weld and fabrication shop environment. Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to ensure production goals and deadlines are met. Essential Skills Proven experience in precision mechanical assembly in a manufacturing or similar environment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics for mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems. Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly and electrical assembly tasks. Proficiency using hand tools and power tools for assembly, alignment, and finishing work. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve fit, form, and function issues during assembly. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills aligned with organizational practices. Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high attention to detail and quality. Capability to work both independently and as part of a team. Effective communication skills, including the ability to deliver information using different methods and confirm understanding. Ability to interpret complex technical issues and explain them in clear, simple language. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and working with spreadsheets. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in mechanical assembly, electrical assembly, automotive or small engine mechanics, or fabrication. Comfort operating production and fabrication equipment such as presses, shears, saws, and drill presses. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively. Work Environment You will work primarily in a clean weld and assembly shop environment focused on bench work and precision assembly. Some areas of the facility include fabrication machines and a larger production weld area, providing exposure to a range of manufacturing processes and equipment. The role follows a day shift schedule, Monday through Friday, supporting predictable hours and consistent routines. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, and shop machinery such as presses, shears, cut-off saws, form rollers, and drill presses while adhering to safety and quality standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilsonville, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
