Fiberglass Fabrication Technician
POSITION REPORTS TO
Director of Operations
POSITION SUMMARY
The Fiberglass Fabrication Technician is responsible for producing custom fiberglass products and reinforcing plastic storage tanks by applying fiberglass and resin systems in accordance with engineering specifications and production standards. This role involves surface preparation, fiberglass layup, resin application, curing processes, and final finishing. The technician ensures structural integrity, product quality, and strict adherence to all safety policies and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations while meeting production schedules in a manufacturing environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED. Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial fabrication environment. 1-3 years of fiberglass or composite manufacturing experience preferred. Proficiency in shop mathematics and blueprint reading (basic to intermediate level). Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Strong attention to detail and quality. Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently with minimal supervision. Willingness to work overtime as business commitments require. Ability to lift 50 lbs. safely. Positive team player with strong interpersonal skills. Prior experience operating warehouse equipment or willingness to be trained.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with team members to achieve or exceed monthly production goals. Read and interpret CAD Drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to accurately fabricate and assemble components. Prepare plastic tank surfaces for fiberglass application through cleaning, sanding, and inspection. Measure, cut, and stage fiberglass mat, cloth, or roving materials according to work orders and engineering drawings. Apply resin systems and fiberglass materials using hand layup, wrapping, or spray techniques. Wrap tanks uniformly to meet thickness and structural reinforcement specifications. Remove air pockets and ensure proper saturation during the fiberglass process. Monitor resin curing times and environmental conditions. Trim, grind, and finish fiberglass surfaces to meet quality standards. Inspect finished tanks for defects such as voids or delamination. Operate and maintain fiberglass tools and equipment. Follow all safety procedures related to fiberglass materials and chemicals. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Record production data and report on quality issues. Collaborate with production team members to meet output goals. Conduct quality inspections, including hydrotesting, to verify system integrity and compliance with specifications. Construct custom crates for shipment preparation. Suggest improvements for fabrication processes, equipment efficiency, and product quality.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, and reaching. Regular use of hands, speech, vision (including depth and color perception), and hearing. Independently lift to 50 lbs.; use moving equipment for heavier loads. Work in a moderately noisy environment. Operate warehouse moving equipment safely and effectively.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Manufacturing environment with fiberglass materials and resins. Personal Protective Equipment, such as gloves, respirators, and safety glasses, is required. You must be clean-shaven to wear a respirator. Requires both independent and collaborative work in production teams.
