Job Title:
Mechanical Assembly Technician Job Description This role performs hands-on mechanical assembly and related production activities within an aerospace manufacturing environment. You will complete simple to advanced mechanical assemblies, support shipping and receiving functions, maintain accurate inventory records in an ERP system, and use a variety of hand and power tools, measuring devices, and adhesives. As you grow, you will have the opportunity to troubleshoot process issues, verify product conformance using drawings and specifications, train others, and become proficient across multiple areas of the clamp block cell. Responsibilities Perform simple production mechanical assemblies according to work instructions, drawings, and customer workmanship standards. Carry out part marking activities to ensure accurate identification and traceability of components. Use the ERP system to document work movement, record completion transactions, and maintain accurate production and inventory records. Support shipping and receiving activities within the cell, including verifying correct items, quantities, quality, and documentation upon receipt. Prepare orders for delivery to internal departments or external customers in a timely and accurate manner. Allocate material to work centers and pick or pull parts from inventory based on production requirements. Receive component parts into the department and enter them into inventory accurately. Process work to meet performance, productivity, and delivery requirements by following established standards and job priority instructions. Communicate production delays, issues, and problems promptly to appropriate supervision or leadership. Collaborate with all members of the manufacturing team to achieve company, departmental, and personal goals and objectives. Participate actively in team and company meetings, sharing feedback and supporting continuous improvement. Demonstrate and role model strong work ethic, professional behavior, proper hygiene, and appropriate dress in the production environment. Achieve mentor certification and support the organization's mission by instructing program participants on processing work within delivery and quality requirements. Train and mentor others on the proper use of hand tools, power tools, and basic mechanical assembly techniques, as assigned. Read and interpret blueprints, including identifying part orientation and opposite features to ensure correct assembly. Set up and use countersinks and drill presses for precision drilling and countersinking operations. Perform riveting operations using hand squeeze, C-squeeze, and alligator squeeze tools, including long and narrow C-squeeze applications. Apply sealants and adhesives, including fillet and other specified applications, following process instructions and safety guidelines. Use basic tools such as drills with specific drill sizes (e.g., #20, #30) and other common hand tools to complete assembly tasks. Operate and use torque wrenches, calipers, and scales to assemble and verify parts to required specifications. At higher levels, troubleshoot process-related problems, identify root causes within the work cell, and escalate issues appropriately when needed. Verify first-piece production for conformance by using specifications, drawings, and customer workmanship standards before running full production. Provide training to staff on specific processes and equipment and recommend qualification on those processes as identified on the qualification matrix. Develop proficiency in two or more areas of the clamp block cell at Level 2 and in all areas of the clamp block cell at Level 3. At advanced levels, perform inspection tasks using calipers and other measurement tools to confirm dimensional accuracy. Conduct cycle counts to support accurate inventory control and reconcile discrepancies. Access and navigate customer portals to retrieve or input required production and quality information, as needed. Essential Skills Mechanical aptitude and strong interest in hands-on mechanical assembly work. Ability to perform simple mechanical production assembly tasks accurately and efficiently. Capability to read and interpret blueprints, including understanding part orientation and opposite features. Experience using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in a production or shop environment. Skill in setting up and using countersinks and drill presses for drilling and countersinking operations. Ability to perform riveting using hand squeeze, C-squeeze, and alligator squeeze tools, including long and narrow configurations. Experience working with sealants and adhesives, including fillet and similar applications, following process instructions. Proficiency with basic tools and drill sizes (such as #20, #30) commonly used in mechanical assembly. Ability to use torque wrenches, calipers, and scales to measure, verify, and assemble parts to specification. Comfort using an ERP system to document work movement, completion transactions, and inventory activities. Ability to perform shipping, receiving, and inventory control tasks, including verifying items, quantities, and documentation. Strong communication skills to report production delays, issues, and to participate effectively in team meetings. Commitment to meeting established productivity, performance, and delivery standards. Willingness and ability to train and mentor others after achieving mentor certification. Attention to detail and ability to follow specifications, drawings, and customer workmanship standards. Basic inspection skills, with the ability to verify conformance using drawings and measurement tools (required at higher levels). Ability to troubleshoot process-related problems and escalate issues appropriately (required at higher levels). Capability to access and navigate customer portals to obtain or input production and quality information (required at higher levels). Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in aerospace mechanical assembly is highly valued and may support placement at higher pay levels. Familiarity with working in an aerospace manufacturing environment, including exposure to aerospace materials and standards. Previous experience in a clamp block cell or similar production cell environment. Experience providing training or mentoring in a production or manufacturing setting. Experience in inventory control, cycle counting, or materials handling. Comfort working with ERP or other manufacturing execution systems. Inspection experience utilizing calipers and other precision measuring tools. Ability to become cross-trained and proficient in multiple areas of the production cell. Work Environment This position is based in a world-class aerospace manufacturing facility focused on mechanical assembly and related production operations.The role follows set shifts:
either 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or 3:25 p.m. to 1:55 a.m., Monday through Thursday. You will work in a hands-on production cell environment, using hand tools, power tools, drill presses, rivet squeezers (hand, C-squeeze, alligator squeeze), torque wrenches, calipers, scales, and other basic shop equipment. Work involves reading blueprints, setting up countersinks, performing riveting, and applying sealants and adhesives in a shop setting that supports major aerospace customers. The environment emphasizes proper hygiene, appropriate dress for a manufacturing setting, safe tool use, and adherence to quality and productivity standards, with a strong culture of teamwork, mentoring, and continuous learning. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Auburn, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
