Job Title:
Production Manager Job Description The Production Manager oversees daily operations in a structural steel fabrication shop to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality production. This role manages multiple trade teams, coordinates several projects at once, and drives continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity. The Production Manager interprets shop drawings, ensures compliance with AISC and AWS standards, and collaborates closely with engineering, quality control, and inspectors to resolve technical and production issues. Responsibilities Oversee daily structural steel shop operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality production. Manage and provide direction to welders, fitters, machine operators, paint and cleaning crews, and shipping and receiving teams. Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously to meet tight production schedules and ensure on‑time delivery. Interpret shop drawings and structural drawings and ensure all work complies with AISC standards and AWS codes. Partner with engineering, quality control, and inspectors to resolve technical or production issues quickly and effectively. Track labor, materials, and workflow to maintain accurate production information and support scheduling and planning. Drive continuous improvements in safety, quality, and productivity across the shop. Apply lean manufacturing principles to streamline processes, reduce waste, and improve throughput. Use CAD software and fixture design knowledge to support efficient fabrication and accurate production. Leverage Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat to prepare reports, track performance, and communicate project status. Promote a culture focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and cross‑team problem solving. Provide clear leadership, coaching, and feedback to team members to support their development and performance. Essential Skills At least 5 years of experience in steel fabrication processes. Detailed knowledge of AISC standards and AWS codes. Ability to interpret shop drawings and structural drawings accurately. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook. Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat. Effective leadership qualities with the ability to manage diverse production teams. Strong time management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines. Proven problem‑solving skills and a strong sense of urgency. High attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality work. Experience with lean manufacturing principles. Experience using CAD software. Experience with fixture design. Strong focus on safety, quality, efficiency, and cross‑team collaboration. Additional Skills & Qualifications Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment. Interest in contributing to a growing company with a strong project pipeline. Motivation to build a long‑term career in structural steel production management. Work Environment The work environment is a structural steel fabrication shop with a small, collaborative team and a supportive culture that offers room for growth. Employees work a steady 4×10 schedule from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, providing long weekends and supporting a strong work-life balance. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Sacramento, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $44.00 - $62.50/hr.
