Job Summary Federal RecyclingWaste Solutions is seeking an experienced and hands-on Plant Manager to oversee daily operations at our Columbus, GA recycling facility. This role is responsible for managing plant operations, supervising employees, ensuring safe and efficient production, and maintaining high standards for quality, productivity, and customer service. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who thrives in a fast-paced industrial environment and is comfortable being actively involved in day-to-day plant operations. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires visibility and involvement on the plant floor daily. This position works closely with production staff, customers, vendors, and company leadership to drive operational performance, control costs, support safety initiatives, and ensure smooth facility operations. This position is onsite in Columbus, GA with minimal local travel required. Responsibilities Prioritize, schedule, and delegate work assignments while directly supervising plant staff to ensure production goals are achieved safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company quality standards. Establish production schedules to support timely processing and delivery of customer materials. Evaluate, recommend, and implement improvements to plant operations, processes, and workflow to increase productivity and operational efficiency. Develop plans for the effective utilization of employees, equipment, and materials. Monitor production performance, operating costs, and material quality to support profitable facility operations. Ensure proper maintenance of equipment, facility cleanliness, and overall housekeeping standards throughout the plant. Develop and manage plant operating and capital budgets while maintaining cost control objectives. Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture throughout the facility. Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, and company safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Oversee employee safety training, compliance initiatives, and corrective actions when necessary. Maintain accurate daily operational reports, production records, and other required administrative paperwork. Operate forklifts and other equipment as needed to support production, sorting, shipping, and facility organization. Interview, hire, train, coach, and develop employees while managing performance, attendance, and disciplinary matters. Maintain a visible and active presence on the plant floor to support employees, address operational issues, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations. Competencies Ability to work in a complex and constantly changing environment. Ability to lead others in a safe and productive manner. High level of knowledge of grades, pricing and logistics in the recycling industry including paper, plastics, and metals. High level of knowledge concerning the equipment involved in the recycling industry. Exceptional communication and organizational skills. High level of experience working with business financials and to be able to execute necessary changes within the facility.
Education / Experience
Recycling facility experience or related management preferred. Bachelor's degree preferred but not required. Physical Demands This role frequently requires sitting, talking, hearing, and using hands to handle materials or controls. Regular activities include walking, standing, and occasional stooping or reaching. The position involves lifting items up to 50 pounds.
