Job Description
PRODUCTION MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION
This role is fully responsible for the day-to-day operations of the production department. This position is responsible for ensuring thorough training of production supervisors and staff so that they are able to meet the goals and objectives set by the production manager and upper management. The production manager will continuously encourage and execute improvement initiatives for the production department. All relevant information related to the production department is reported regularly by the production manager. Primary Job Functions Assist plant manager in the planning and scheduling of all production equipment including planned shut downs for maintenance Meet with management team daily to identify and prioritize production, quality, and process issues Organize daily workload for the production department and utilize staff in an appropriate way to ensure efficiency Willing and able to be on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week, taking calls from various personnel when safety, quality, or production issues arise, coming in on off-hours when needed Responsible for meeting efficiency targets, production goals, and shipping deadlines Seek out, develop, and implement new programs or systems for the production department either as part of a team or on your own Assist in the development of new products and the research of new product/markets for our company Responsible for the gathering and retention of production metrics for reporting/problem-solving/analysis purposes Work closely with quality control department to further quality standards by regularly meeting with quality staff, getting staff properly trained to work with SPC, training staff to understand lab reports, etc Ensure training records are being maintained appropriately Work in conjunction with quality department in addressing quality related issues and customer complaints with all production personnel Ensure the activities of the shift supervisors are focused on achieving results for tasks you have assigned Compile information for shift supervisors to cover in monthly meeting with their staff Work with outside vendors in the specification of new equipment and the modification and reconditioning of existing equipment, parts, components, and services Oversee the installation of equipment insuring that work is performed in accordance to manufacturer's specification Fill in as back up quality manager or plant manager when needed Perform and coordinate plant monitoring during extended shutdowns Ensure production supplies and common spare parts remain stocked Requisition parts and supplies on an as-needed basis Responsible for plant-wide housekeeping Responsible for ensuring all production employee related tasks (hire, evaluation, promotion, disciplinary action, termination) are completed in a timely fashion and that records are kept confidential Actively pursue improvements that reduce costs and/or increase efficiencies Any other tasks as assigned by the plant manager Skills Upon hire, it will be required for the production manager to be well versed in understanding and performing all lab testing and analysis Ability to plan, execute, evaluate, and sustain a system, program, or project in a timely manner Ability to analyze large data sets in order to develop solutions for better products, processes, or systems Must possess good verbal and written communication skills Must be able to interact and work well with both upper management and direct reports Must be extremely organized and able to multi-task with close attention to detail Must be a clear thinker with the ability to make timely correct decisions Proficiency with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) Desired Skills Ability to plan/coordinate/implement non-existent processes and systems timely and effectively Experience Prior experience working with extrusion equipment Minimum of two years experience managing staff within a manufacturing environment Prior experience working with ISO systems (9001, 14001, 16949) andOSHA 18001
