Job Description:
The Assistant Plant Manager oversees the daily operations of food processing. Their job is to ensure that production meets health, sanitation, and quality standards set by the company, food industry, and government agencies. The Assistant Plant Manager is also responsible for coordinating shifts, arranging schedules, and monitoring employee performance. Ensures optimal product quality, satisfies customers' needs and provides bottom line profit for the company. They are a key member of the Production Department and report to the Plant Manager. Essential Job Functions Responsible for determining that product meets all specifications, customer requirements and is suitable for release Skilled in directing and coordinating the activities of food production personnel to ensure efficient operations Able to achieve production targets within set timeframe Adept at making key production decisions to ensure manufacture of high quality products Responsible for coordinating just-in-time inventory purchases to maintain inventory to meet production goals Carries out research to discover potential risks and possible problems before initiating a project Ensures products and raw materials are stored properly at optimum conditions Oversees the hiring, orientation and training food production personnel Allots work tasks to company staff according to their specialization and history Sets production objectives and implement action plans for achieving set targets Directs and supervises the activities of food production staff Able to motivate and supervise work crew to ensure daily production targets are achieved Sets and enforces health/safety procedures and guidelines for operation Ensures manufacturing and processing staff wear appropriate sanitary and protective gear to ensure health and safety Monitors every aspect of production to ensure compliance with established procedures and standards Inspects food production equipment to ensure they are operational and in good working order for food processing. Liaise with the sales and marketing department to develop and implement strategies for driving sales of newly introduced or seasonal products Identifies opportunities and conduct studies to discover ways to improve the efficiency of production processes Makes recommendations to management on ways to increase product quality and revenue generation Prepares periodic reports to update upper management on food production activities May attend seminars, conferences, and educational programs to update job knowledge Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field with 3 years of relevant experience required. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Advocate of SQF and HAACP practices/certification
  • Back up SQF Practitioner
  • In the absence of centralized purchasing, this person is responsible for buying ingredients, hard and soft goods from assigned Purveyors
  • Oversees stock rotation process
  • Verification of Monitoring Activities
  • Preforms pre-operational hygiene inspection
  • Responsible for the monitoring of the prevention of foreign matter contamination
  • Key Member of the Food Safety and Food Quality Team
  • Required to notify management about actual or potential food safety issues
  • Other duties as requested Coverage Tree Plant Manager covers duties in case of absence Assistant Plant Manager covers QA/QC and SQF Practitioner duties in case of absence
