Responsibilities:
- The Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) of the University of Rochester is a unique national resource for research in science and technology focusing on using lasers to initiate high energy density physics.
LLE is currently seeking to hire a Sr. Laboratory Engineer to serve as the
OMEGA EP
System Analyst and join the Facility Operations Management group in overseeing the operation of the Omega EP laser facility. Candidate will be expected to serve as a Shot Director and will also be responsible for analyzing experimental configurations for feasibility and system safety, monitoring facility performance, and optimizing facility utilization. Work closely with IT personnel to define and implement business rules and shot management systems. Serve as project team member for new system capabilities or sustainment project efforts. As Shot Director, oversee both the engineers and technicians standing watch as well as the execution of complex setups for state-of-the-art experiments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- + Complete training as a Shot Director within 1 year, thereafter, serve as Shot Director, the senior crew member responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the facility and interfacing with scientists performing experiments on the system.
+ Analyze proposed experimental configurations for system safety, feasibility, and efficiency. + Monitor / analyze existing and develop new performance metrics focused on maximizing facility availability and effectiveness. + Manage small facility enhancement projects. + Prepare reports and presentations communicating current system performance and capability. + Author and review procedures for shot and maintenance operations. + Audit and develop business rules and their integration into an under development shot request and configuration system. + Work closely with programmers and other IT staff to implement business logic and develop tools or web-based utilities necessary for efficient operations. + Interface with principal investigators awarded shot time and other members of the scientific community in support of experimental campaigns.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- + B.S. Degree in Physical Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science and 5 years of applicable experience or equivalent combination of skills and work experience required. M.S. Preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
