Plant Manager / Operations Manager Position Summary The Plant Superintendent is responsible for leading and overseeing day-to-day manufacturing operations at the Chattanooga facility, with direct responsibility for Cut-to-Length operations and the Fabrication Department. This role ensures that production goals are met safely, efficiently, on-time, and in alignment with company quality, cost, and customer expectations. The Plant Superintendent provides hands-on leadership to supervisors and production teams, drives operational discipline, promotes a strong safety culture, and supports continuous improvement initiatives across the plant. Key Responsibilities Operations & Production Leadership Oversee daily plant operations for Cut-to-Length and Fabrication departments with focus on streamlining processes, managing resources, and optimizing workflows to drive profitability. Develop, manage, and maintain production schedules to meet customer demand and operational targets. Monitor workflow, staffing, and equipment utilization to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime, scrap, and rework. Identify and communicate any issues that could impact safety, quality, cost, or delivery. Safety & Compliance Maintain a strong safety-first culture and ensure compliance with all company safety policies and procedures and driving safe behaviors. Conduct routine plant inspections and safety audits to verify safe work practices and regulatory compliance. Investigate and report all safety incidents, near misses, and accidents; ensure corrective actions are implemented. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and other applicable health, safety, and environmental requirements. Quality & Continuous Improvement Ensure quality control standards are consistently followed throughout production processes. Support root cause analysis and corrective action for quality issues, production delays, or safety concerns. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, waste reduction, process standardization, and cost control. Participate in troubleshooting production issues and maintaining plant and production assets. Leadership, Training & Development Build and maintain a positive, trustworthy, and accountable work environment. Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and production employees while tracking Key Performance Indicators. Ensure supervisors are properly trained and supported to manage their teams effectively. Partner with Plant Management and Human Resources on hiring, onboarding, training, and employee development initiatives. Prepare and implement ongoing training and improvement plans for plant leadership and production teams. Communication & Collaboration Communicate effectively with Plant Management regarding operational performance, risks, and improvement opportunities. Collaborate with maintenance, quality, supply chain, and other departments to support production objectives. Maintain professional working relationships with other company facilities, vendors, and customers as required. Other Duties Actively participate in planning, organizing, and executing plant projects and initiatives. Collaborate with Business Unit Manager to translate long-term company goals into actionable, day-to-day operational plans. Qualifications & Experience Education High school diploma or GED required; some college or technical education preferred. Experience Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing experience, with progressive leadership responsibility. Prior experience supervising production teams in a metal processing or fabrication environment preferred. Working knowledge of Cut-to-Length operations is valuable. Experience with laser cutting equipment (e.g., Trumpf) and fabrication processes strongly preferred. Knowledge & Skills Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety compliance. Proven ability to troubleshoot production, quality, and equipment-related issues. Understanding of production planning, execution, and workflow optimization. Experience with quality control systems and continuous improvement practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort working within ERP and manufacturing systems. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Demonstrated leadership, team-building, and accountability skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. Knowledge of ISO 14001
Environmental Management Systems is a plus. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving equipment, and industrial conditions. Ability to walk the plant floor regularly and observe production activities.
