This position provides comprehensive exposure to all aspects of tire production and plant operations, enabling the selected candidate to develop the strategic, technical, operational, and leadership capabilities required to lead a large-scale tire manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will work closely with the Manufacturing Director and executive leadership team to gain a deep understanding of all manufacturing functions including tire production, mixing, component preparation, tire building, curing, quality assurance, maintenance, engineering, logistics, supply chain, and continuous improvement. The role serves as a structured leadership development position with the expectation of assuming the Manufacturing Director role in the future. Key Responsibilities Manufacturing Leadership & Operations Assume and successfully lead designated operational leadership assignments as outlined in a formal succession and development plan. Develop a comprehensive understanding of all tire manufacturing processes including: Mixing and compound preparation Component preparation Tire building Curing and finishing Quality assurance and testing Material handling and logistics Maintenance and engineering operations Lead manufacturing teams to achieve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity objectives. Drive operational excellence across all production departments while maintaining a strong focus on safety and product quality. Monitor plant performance and identify opportunities to improve OEE, throughput, yield, scrap reduction, and overall manufacturing efficiency. Develop a thorough understanding of operating conditions that contribute to achieving or exceeding production targets and those that prevent target attainment. Partner with production, maintenance, engineering, quality, and logistics teams to optimize plant performance. Tire Manufacturing Expertise Apply extensive tire manufacturing knowledge to support process optimization and operational decision-making. Drive improvements in tire uniformity, quality, yield, curing performance, compound consistency, and manufacturing reliability. Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing defects, scrap, downtime, and customer complaints. Ensure compliance with tire industry quality standards, customer requirements, and regulatory expectations. Maintain a strong understanding of tire manufacturing technologies, equipment, and best practices. Continuous Improvement Champion Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility. Analyze operational data and KPIs to identify performance gaps and improvement opportunities. Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions related to safety, quality, productivity, equipment reliability, and customer concerns. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement at all levels of the organization. Utilize PDCA, Kaizen, DMAIC, and other structured problem-solving methodologies. Strategic Leadership Collaborate with the President, Vice Presidents, and Directors to establish operational priorities and strategic objectives. Advise executive leadership on tire manufacturing trends, operational best practices, regulatory requirements, and industry developments. Serve as a change agent who drives operational improvements while building strong relationships throughout the organization. Communicate organizational vision, objectives, and expectations through structured operational management systems and leadership routines. Demonstrate strong crisis management and decision-making capabilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Maintain a visible presence on the manufacturing floor and actively engage with employees and leadership teams to identify challenges and develop solutions. Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, employee development, and operational excellence. Succession Development Work alongside the Manufacturing Director to gain comprehensive operational leadership experience. Gradually assume increasing responsibility for overall plant manufacturing performance. Ultimately perform Manufacturing Director responsibilities in parallel with the incumbent during a defined transition period. Maintain a structured development journal documenting key learnings, operational insights, and recommendations for continuous improvement. Additional Responsibilities Perform other duties as assigned by the President, Vice Presidents, and Directors. EducationRequired Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related discipline) or Business Administration. Preferred Master's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or MBA. Experience Required Minimum 10 years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience within a tire manufacturing environment. Minimum 5 years of senior manufacturing leadership experience managing multiple production departments. Demonstrated leadership experience within a tire manufacturing facility producing passenger, light truck, commercial, or specialty tires. Strong knowledge of tire manufacturing processes including mixing, component preparation, tire building, curing, finishing, and quality systems. Proven experience leading large hourly workforces of 500+ employees. Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, Operational Excellence, and Continuous Improvement methodologies. Experience managing production KPIs including OEE, throughput, scrap, yield, downtime, labor efficiency, and quality performance. Preferred Experience supporting greenfield or major plant expansion projects. Multi-plant leadership experience within the tire industry. Experience working with global tire manufacturing organizations. Black Belt or equivalent continuous improvement certification. Physical Requirements Must be able to frequently move throughout manufacturing facilities, production areas, warehouses, and office environments. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while performing administrative duties. Must be able to operate computers and standard office equipment. Must be able to occasionally lift and move materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, moving equipment, and varying production conditions.
