Tire Manufacturing Director Successor Development This role is specifically designed to develop a high-potential succession candidate for the future role of Manufacturing Director. The position provides comprehensive exposure to all facets of the Tennessee Plant (TP) manufacturing operation, enabling the selected candidate to further strengthen leadership, strategic, technical, and lean operational capabilities through hands-on experience and progressive managerial responsibility. As part of this structured development program, the candidate will assume ongoing leadership assignments and rotational responsibilities across key manufacturing functions while working closely with executive leadership and plant operations teams. Key Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assume and successfully lead designated assignments outlined in a formal development plan to gain a comprehensive understanding of TP manufacturing operations. Develop leadership capabilities across all manufacturing functions including production, materials, logistics, quality, engineering, maintenance, and continuous improvement. Maintain stable operating conditions while identifying opportunities to optimize safety, quality, productivity, cost, and delivery performance. Learn and become proficient in TP safety standards, compliance and regulatory requirements, reporting structures, budgeting processes, supplier management, and customer expectations. Drive Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, and continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing operational data, performing root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, and improving equipment uptime and process reliability. Prepare and communicate production and operational reports related to safety, quality, cost, delivery, and performance targets. Develop a deep understanding of operational drivers contributing to achieving or missing daily production objectives. Ultimately transition into the Manufacturing Director role while working alongside the incumbent leader during a defined transition period. Maintain a developmental journal documenting experiences, lessons learned, and opportunities to improve the succession development process. Lead manufacturing operations through effective supervision and employee engagement focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and cost reduction. Inspire a culture of continuous improvement by leveraging KPIs, PDCA methodology, and operational excellence tools. Collaborate closely with the President, Vice Presidents, and Directors to establish standards and lead by example throughout the organization. Advise executive leadership on U.S. tire manufacturing operations, regulatory requirements, industry trends, and operational best practices. Serve as a positive change agent capable of driving results through strong collaboration, communication, and relationship-building. Communicate organizational vision and operational priorities through clear goal setting and structured operational cadences. Lead effectively under pressure and demonstrate strong crisis management and problem-solving capabilities. Maintain strong visibility on the plant floor by engaging with employees and leadership teams to identify issues, solve problems, and build trust. Demonstrate authenticity, energy, accountability, and leadership presence in all interactions. Perform additional duties as assigned by executive leadership. Qualifications Education Required Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related technical discipline) or Business Administration Preferred Master's degree in a technical discipline and/or MBA Experience Required 10+ years of Tire manufacturing experience 5+ years of senior manufacturing leadership experience 5+ years of tire manufacturing experience Proven experience leading large hourly workforces (500+ employees) Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, and continuous improvement systems Key Leadership Competencies Strategic leadership and operational excellence Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities Ability to lead effectively in high-pressure environments Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Change management and organizational influence High level of accountability, energy, and initiative Strong employee engagement and leadership presence Physical Requirements Physical demands may include, but are not limited to: Frequently moving throughout the manufacturing plant campus, office environments, and production areas, including occasional stair climbing Remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time Operating computers and standard office equipment Positioning self to access files and documents in various locations Occasionally lifting and moving office equipment or supplies up to 25 pounds
