The Plant Manager leads all aspects of a chemical manufacturing facility to deliver safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective production. This role is responsible for operations, maintenance, quality, environmental health & safety, staffing, and continuous improvement initiatives to meet production targets, regulatory requirements, and company objectives. Key Responsibilities Lead day-to-day plant operations to meet production, quality, cost, and delivery targets for chemical products.
Develop, implement, and enforce safety and environmental programs (PSM, HAZOP, OSHA, EPA) to ensure a zero-harm workplace and regulatory compliance.
Plan and optimize production schedules, capacity, and resource allocation in coordination with supply chain and sales teams.
Manage plant budgets, control costs, and drive productivity improvements while tracking key performance indicators (KPIs).
Oversee maintenance, reliability, and asset management programs to maximize equipment uptime and extend asset life.
Champion continuous improvement (Lean, Six Sigma) projects to increase throughput, reduce waste, and improve process yields.
Ensure product quality and process control by working with QA/QC teams to maintain specifications and resolve deviations.
Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing operations team; set clear goals, conduct performance reviews, and promote a culture of accountability and safety.
Coordinate with engineering, R D, and external contractors for process improvements, capital projects, and scale-up activities.
Lead incident investigation, emergency response planning, and corrective actions when safety or quality issues arise.
Maintain accurate production, safety, and regulatory records and prepare reports for senior management and regulatory agencies. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
7+ years of manufacturing experience with at least 35 years in a plant leadership or management role in a chemical or process industry.
Demonstrated knowledge of chemical plant operations, process safety management (PSM), HAZOP, hazardous materials handling, and environmental regulations.
Proven track record of delivering production targets, cost reduction, and operational improvements using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
Strong leadership and people-management skills with experience building and developing multidisciplinary teams.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management abilities.
Familiarity with ERP/MES systems (e.g., SAP), production scheduling tools, and KPI-driven management.
Certifications preferred: Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, Professional Engineer (PE), or safety certifications. Willingness to support shift operations or be on-call for emergencies.
