Job Description

Position Summary The Fabrication Manager is responsible for leading the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of CEI's fabrication operations. This role supports both internal project demands and the strategic growth of fabrication as a scalable business unit. The Fabrication Manager ensures fabrication work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget while improving communication and coordination between the shop, field operations, and project management teams. This position requires a strong operational leader with experience in fabrication processes, production planning, team leadership, and workflow management. The ideal candidate is highly organized, solutions-oriented, capable of managing complex personalities and priorities, and committed to driving accountability, craftsmanship, and operational excellence. Experience with fabrication practices, structural assemblies, and CAD-integrated workflows is highly preferred. Key Responsibilities Production Planning & Execution Lead day-to-day fabrication operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. Develop and maintain rolling 6-12 week fabrication schedules aligned with project priorities and installation timelines. Ensure all fabrication work orders are fully defined prior to release to production, including scope, drawings, materials, and timelines. Coordinate with field operations and project management teams to support seamless installation readiness and project execution. Monitor shop capacity, labor utilization, and resource allocation to proactively identify constraints and production risks. Improve workflow efficiency and minimize downtime across fabrication operations. Financial Performance & Cost Control Manage fabrication operations within labor and material budgets. Track fabrication costs, labor hours, productivity metrics, waste, and rework. Support development of accurate fabrication estimating practices and production cost feedback loops. Assist leadership in establishing pricing structures and cost models for future external fabrication work. Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, and increase operational efficiency. Process Improvement & Operational Excellence Develop, document, implement, and train teams on standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to fabrication workflow, scheduling, quality control, and shop operations. Create and implement repeatable fabrication processes for common assemblies and production tasks. Establish visual management systems, dashboards, and tracking tools to improve communication and operational visibility. Drive continuous improvement initiatives that increase throughput, quality, and predictability. Support implementation of CAD-integrated and digital fabrication workflows where applicable. Shop, Field & Project Team Coordination Serve as the primary liaison between fabrication, field operations, and project management teams. Participate in project turnover, planning, and coordination meetings. Ensure fabrication expectations, drawings, specifications, sequencing, and schedules are clearly communicated prior to production. Facilitate regular coordination meetings with project managers and field leadership. Reduce field installation issues resulting from fabrication errors or communication gaps. Quality, Safety & Risk Management Ensure all fabricated products meet CEI quality standards, specifications, and tolerances. Implement and maintain formal QA/QC procedures and inspection processes. Enforce all shop safety policies, procedures, and compliance standards. Participate in safety audits, investigations, and corrective action processes. Foster a strong safety culture focused on accountability, hazard recognition, and continuous improvement. Leadership & Team Development Lead, mentor, and manage fabrication personnel while promoting accountability, teamwork, and professional development. Conduct performance reviews and establish clear expectations and development plans for team members. Coordinate ongoing skills development and technical training for fabrication staff. Maintain a strong culture of craftsmanship, communication, and operational discipline. Identify and develop future shop leaders and high-potential employees. Effectively manage conflict resolution between shop, field, and project teams. Technology & CAD Integration Ensure effective use of CAD software and digital tools for fabrication detailing, planning, and shop drawings. Improve constructability and fabrication efficiency through coordination with engineering and project teams. Standardize drawing review, approval, and revision processes. Support digital tracking and communication systems that improve workflow visibility and accountability. Business Growth & Strategic Support Support CEI leadership in growing fabrication into a scalable business operation. Identify opportunities for external fabrication revenue aligned with CEI capabilities. Assist in developing fabrication service offerings, pricing strategies, and operational scalability plans. Build strong internal and external relationships that position CEI fabrication as a value-added service. Support achievement of fabrication revenue and profitability goals. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in fabrication, manufacturing, structural steel, welding, or related operations leadership. Prior supervisory or management experience in a fabrication or production environment preferred. Strong understanding of fabrication workflows, shop operations, scheduling, and production planning. Experience reading blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications. Knowledge of welding, structural assemblies, and fabrication quality standards preferred. Experience with CAD software and fabrication detailing strongly preferred. Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across departments. Proficient with Microsoft Office and production tracking/reporting systems. Pay:
$125,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
