Laydown Foreman - Structural Steel Zentech Consulting - 3.8 Gibsonton, FL Job Details Full-time $30 - $36 an hour 3 hours ago Qualifications Press brake machine TIG welding Forklift Power tools Hand tools Full Job Description Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Laydown Foreman specializing in Structural Steel to lead and coordinate large-scale steel fabrication and installation projects on construction sites. This role is vital in ensuring that structural steel components are assembled, rigged, and installed safely, efficiently, and according to detailed blueprints and industry standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for precision craftsmanship. As a key team leader, you will oversee daily operations, supervise skilled workers, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and project specifications. Duties Lead the setup, positioning, and assembly of structural steel components using hand tools, power tools, rigging equipment, and cranes. Read and interpret detailed blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to guide fabrication and installation processes. Oversee welding activities including
MIG, TIG, FCAW
(Flux-Cored Arc Welding), welding, and Soldering to ensure high-quality joints that meet ASME codes & standards. Manage the use of fabrication machinery such as press brake machines, plasma cutters, and machining tools to shape sheet metal and ductwork accurately. Coordinate with team members to perform pipe threading, assembly of steel structures, and mechanical installations following safety guidelines. Conduct inspections using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and quality standards. Ensure all work complies with safety regulations; oversee rigging operations for lifting heavy steel components with cranes or forklifts. Maintain detailed records of work performed, materials used, and safety inspections throughout the project lifecycle. Skills Extensive construction site experience with a focus on structural steel installation. Proficiency in welding techniques including MIG, TIG, FCAW, welding; ability to perform quality welds according to industry standards. Strong knowledge of blueprint reading, schematics interpretation, and technical drawings. Skilled in operating hand tools, power tools, plasma cutters, press brake machines, and machining equipment. Familiarity with rigging procedures for lifting heavy steel components safely using cranes or forklifts. Mechanical aptitude with understanding of pipe threading, fabrication processes, ductwork installation, and assembly techniques. Ability to perform basic math calculations for measurements and material estimations accurately. Knowledge of ASME codes & standards related to steel fabrication and welding practices. Effective leadership skills to supervise teams of skilled tradespeople while maintaining a focus on safety and quality.
