Job Description

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily production operations within the fully cooked poultry processing facility, including staffing, production flow, labor utilization, equipment coordination, and operational performance. This role supervises production team members across assigned processing lines and ensures production schedules, yield targets, and operational goals are achieved while maintaining product integrity and operational efficiency. The Production Supervisor provides frontline leadership within the plant and supports continuous improvement initiatives, employee development, and effective communication across departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Operations Management Supervise daily production activities within assigned department(s). Coordinate labor and production resources to support production schedules, throughput targets, and operational efficiency. Monitor line performance, downtime, staffing levels, and material flow throughout the shift. Ensure production activities are completed according to operational standards and customer requirements. Communicate production priorities, schedule changes, and operational issues to employees and leadership teams. Support startup, changeovers, and shutdown activities for assigned production areas. Leadership & Team Supervision Lead, coach, and develop hourly production employees. Conduct employee training, performance discussions, coaching, and corrective action as needed. Monitor employee attendance, work performance, and adherence to company expectations. Promote teamwork, accountability, and effective communication within production teams. Support employee engagement and assist with onboarding and cross-training initiatives. Operational Performance & Continuous Improvement Analyze production performance metrics including labor efficiency, downtime, throughput, and yield. Identify operational improvement opportunities and implement corrective actions to improve efficiency and workflow. Partner with maintenance, quality, shipping, and other departments to resolve operational issues affecting production. Assist with process improvements, workflow optimization, and operational standardization initiatives. Support waste reduction and productivity improvement efforts within assigned production areas. Equipment & Process Coordination Coordinate with maintenance teams regarding equipment performance, repairs, and operational concerns. Monitor equipment operation and escalate mechanical issues impacting production performance. Assist with operational readiness for new equipment, process changes, or production initiatives. Ensure proper use of production equipment and operational tools by assigned employees. Reporting & Administrative Responsibilities Complete production documentation, labor tracking, shift reporting, and operational records accurately and timely. Review production results and communicate shift performance updates to plant leadership. Participate in production meetings, shift handoffs, and operational planning discussions. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises approximately 30-80 hourly production employees. Responsible for employee scheduling, training, coaching, performance management, attendance monitoring, and corrective action administration.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or food production environment preferred. Poultry processing, ready-to-eat, or fully cooked food manufacturing experience strongly preferred. Experience supervising large hourly workforces in fast-paced production environments preferred. Bi-lingual Spanish/English a plus. Skills & Competencies Strong leadership and employee coaching abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities. Ability to analyze production performance and identify operational improvements. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and production reporting systems. Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends, overtime, and extended shifts as operationally required. Work Environment Work is performed in a combination of office and poultry processing environments. Employee splits time between a professional office setting and active production areas. Work in production areas may include exposure to: Cold, refrigerated environments (Fresh Processing) Warm or hot areas near ovens, fryers, or cooking equipment (Further Processing/Ready-to-Eat) Wet and humid conditions Moderate to high noise levels requiring hearing protection Floors that may be wet or slippery Exposure to raw poultry product and strong food-related odors Exposure to common food allergens used in production, including but not limited to wheat, soy, milk, and egg. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and operating office equipment. Prolonged standing and walking on production floor. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, with or without assistance. Ability to communicate effectively, including speaking, hearing, and exchanging information in person and via phone or video.
