Industrial Fabrication Foreman - Heavy Industrial / Mining Fabrication Miller Contracting Services | Carrier Mills, IL Overview Miller Contracting is hiring an experienced Industrial Fabrication Foreman to lead daily fabrication shop operations supporting mining and industrial construction projects. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing fabrication workflow, supporting shop personnel, coordinating production priorities, and ensuring quality and safety standards are maintained throughout the fabrication process. The ideal candidate will bring strong fabrication knowledge, leadership ability, and experience working in a fast-paced heavy industrial or mining-related fabrication environment. Key Responsibilities Shop Leadership & Production Oversight Lead and support daily fabrication shop operations Coordinate fabrication workflow, manpower, and production priorities Assign work and monitor productivity, quality, and schedule performance Support fabrication crews with layout, fit-up, welding, and assembly activities Assist in troubleshooting fabrication and production issues in real time Communicate production status and concerns with Operations and leadership Fabrication & Quality Execution Read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications Verify layout, fit-up, measurements, and fabrication accuracy Ensure fabrication quality standards are maintained throughout production Support weld quality and fabrication consistency across projects Identify issues early to reduce rework and delays Team Leadership & Development Provide direction, coaching, and support to fabrication personnel Promote accountability, teamwork, and shop organization Assist with onboarding and training newer fabrication employees Help maintain a productive, safety-focused work environment Safety & Shop Operations Enforce all company safety procedures and PPE requirements Maintain safe and organized shop conditions Monitor equipment use and ensure safe fabrication practices Support housekeeping, workflow organization, and material staging What This Role Is Hands-on shop leadership Production-focused and execution-driven Working directly alongside fabrication crews Responsible for balancing quality, productivity, and safety What This Role Is Not Not an office-only management position Not limited to supervision without hands-on involvement Not a production welding-only role Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial fabrication, welding, fit-up, or heavy industrial shop environments Previous leadership, leadman, or foreman experience in a fabrication setting Strong understanding of fabrication processes, layout, fit-up, and welding operations Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications Experience working in fast-paced, production-driven fabrication environments Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills Commitment to safety, quality, and accountability Preferred Qualifications Experience in mining, heavy industrial, or structural fabrication Experience with FCAW (Dual Shield), GMAW (MIG), and SMAW (Stick) welding processes Welding certifications or fabrication-related credentials Experience coordinating workflow, manpower, and shop scheduling Experience with large assemblies or heavy fabricated components Work Environment Full-time, on-site fabrication shop role Industrial fabrication environment with exposure to welding, grinding, overhead cranes, and heavy materials Monday-Friday schedule with overtime as operationally required Compensation & Benefits $30.00 - $38.00/hour, based on experience Weekly pay Quarterly discretionary profit sharing Medical, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with company match Paid time off and holidays Company-paid life insurance Why Miller Contracting Miller Contracting operates as a "Bottom Up" organization.
