Job Description

Subsidiary OmniSource Overview Leads all production activities on the night shift in an ASR processing operation. The supervisor is responsible for safe execution of the production plan, staffing, throughput, housekeeping, quality checks, equipment operating discipline, and accurate shift communication. Responsibilities Direct and coordinate night-shift production personnel across conveyors, screens, magnets, eddy current systems, picking stations, loaders, and material handling equipment. Execute the daily production schedule and meet throughput, recovery, and uptime targets established by plant management. Conduct start-up, shift-change, and shutdown checks; verify guards, E-stops, housekeeping, and operating readiness before production begins. Enforce all safety rules, PPE requirements, traffic control, lockout/tagout boundaries, and hot-work/reporting procedures. Stop work when unsafe conditions exist and notify the appropriate supervisor/maintenance contact. Monitor process flow and equipment status; respond to jams, overloads, contamination, dust/spillage, and abnormal operating conditions by following established operating procedures and escalation paths. Verify material quality and segregation requirements; document contamination, off-spec product, downtime events, and production counts. Complete shift reports, production logs, downtime records, housekeeping inspections, and incident/near-miss documentation. Coordinate with maintenance on equipment issues, isolations, and repair access; provide clear defect descriptions and operational impact. Train, coach, and assign operators and laborers; reinforce standard work, safe operating practices, and housekeeping expectations. Maintain orderly work areas, walkways, platforms, chutes, and transfer points; ensure spills and combustible accumulations are addressed promptly. Participate in shift handoff with incoming supervisors/operators, including status of equipment, material inventory, quality concerns, and outstanding safety issues. Approve timecard and vacation/time off. All other tasks assigned. Qualifications Strong communication skills to successfully interact with employees, managers, and customers. Strong written skills to effectively report status of area. Strong computer skills (working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.) Ability to present information to large groups effectively. Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple tasks at once.
