Job Description

PastryStar is located in Laurel, MD. Since 1986, the company has been manufacturing high quality, clean-label bakery ingredients (such as powder mixes and baking fruit jams and fillings). Our core customers are industrial bakeries, in-store bakeries, and cruise lines. We are looking for a Production Lead for our afternoon shift to oversee production, personnel, and maintenance of their respective production rooms (kettle, dough, powder) during the day shift. The Production Lead is in charge of leading the production associates by coaching them and training them on production processes and to properly fill out documentation.
General Responsibilities:
  • Lead the other associates to complete the daily production processes and ultimately produce safe, and quality products
  • Increase the efficiency of production, ensure the cleanliness of the rooms, operate machinery correctly, and produce on schedule
  • Ensure production goals are achieved on schedule
  • Ensure all machinery is properly operated in a safe way
  • Ensure all associates feel welcomed and supported (i.e., coached and trained)
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the production room
  • Monitor and manage sanitation and storage of all tools and chemicals after shift and leave the room tidy for the next shift
  • Supervise, motivate, and coordinates the activities of production associates
  • Report on operations review boards
  • Ensure completed production order reflects accurate used quantity and lot number of raw materials
  • Ensure all documentation is filled out correctly and accurately
  • Ensure the line workers arrive on time, take breaks on time, take lunch on time, and leave on time. If not, advise production manager
  • Ensure line workers are always productive and cleaning after themselves and cleaning the rooms
  • Ensure GMPs are being followed. If they are not being followed, train them on it!
  • Train line workers on machine operation and filling logs
Education/Experience:
Minimum 5-10 years of sanitation experience in a food manufacturing environment High school diploma or equivalent Enjoys working with and developing people Experience operating jam filling equipment preferred Computer skills Is flexible and open to change Ability to manage staff
Bilingual:
English and Spanish, desirable Proven ability to understand production line efficiencies around labor, machinery, and production methods
