Drive Performance. Build Great Projects. Penn Services is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead our steel fabrication operations. This role is responsible for the daily execution of shop production, labor management, CNC programming, quality performance, and workforce development. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who understands fabrication, enjoys solving production challenges, and takes pride in building high-performing teams. The successful candidate will work directly with the Director of Fabrication to ensure projects are produced safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards while meeting customer commitments. What You'll OwnProduction Execution Lead all fabrication shop operations to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget Manage production schedules, priorities, and workflow across multiple active projects Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials to maximize throughput Identify and remove production bottlenecks Drive schedule adherence and on-time delivery performance CNC Programming & Automation Oversee CNC programming and machine utilization Manage DSTV and DXF file workflows Coordinate with detailing and project teams to ensure fabrication readiness Optimize nesting, machine efficiency, and material utilization Support continued automation and process improvement initiatives Labor Productivity & Workforce Development Lead and develop welders, fitters, CNC operators, material handlers, laborers, and lead fabricators Assign labor resources based on production priorities Track labor performance and productivity metrics Manage overtime utilization and staffing needs Coach, train, and develop future shop leaders Build a culture of accountability and continuous improvement Quality & Rework Prevention Ensure fabricated products meet customer requirements and company standards Drive first-time quality throughout the fabrication process Investigate production issues and implement corrective actions Reduce rework, scrap, and avoidable labor costs Partner with quality personnel to maintain fabrication standards Safety & Shop Organization Promote and enforce a strong safety culture Maintain OSHA compliance and safe work practices Drive housekeeping, organization, and visual management initiatives Ensure equipment and work areas are maintained in a professional manner What We're Looking For Required Qualifications 10+ years of steel fabrication experience 5+ years of leadership experience within a fabrication or manufacturing environment CNC programming experience Strong understanding of fabrication workflows and production planning Ability to read and interpret structural and miscellaneous metals drawings Working knowledge of welding processes and fabrication techniques OSHA and workplace safety knowledge Proven ability to lead teams and drive results Preferred Qualifications Experience with Tekla, FabTrol, SigmaNest, ProNest, or similar software AWS certifications Structural steel fabrication experience Stairs and railing fabrication experience Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience Who Succeeds Here This position is ideal for a leader who: Understands fabrication from the shop floor up Holds themselves and others accountable Can balance people, schedules, quality, and production demands Makes decisions based on facts and performance metrics Enjoys building teams and improving processes Leads by example Benefits Competitive Salary Performance-Based Bonus Opportunities 401(k) Company Match Health Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Paid Time Off Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Join Penn Services We're looking for someone who wants more than a title.
