Job Overview Title:
Machine Shop Supervisor Reporting to : Manufacturing Manager We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Machine Shop Supervisor to lead our manufacturing operations in a fast-paced, precision-driven environment. As the leader of the machine shop team, you will oversee daily production activities and targets, ensure adherence to safety and quality standards, and foster a culture of continuous improvement Responsibilities Supervise daily machine shop operations, including CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, honing, grinding, and manual machining tools Coordinate and prioritize production schedules to meet project deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards Oversee setup, calibration, and operation of equipment such as CNC programming, CAM programming, and tooling adjustments Ensure all team members follow safety protocols, proper use of hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment like MIG welders Conduct quality control inspections using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards Lead troubleshooting efforts for machining issues involving Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), CNC programming errors, or mechanical failures Promote lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflows, reduce waste, and improve overall efficiency Maintain accurate records of production activities, tooling inventories, and maintenance schedules Provide mentorship and training to team members on fabrication techniques, assembly processes, and the use of SolidWorks for design review Collaborate with engineering teams on prototype development using CAD/CAM software and ensure seamless communication between design and manufacturing Requirements Proven experience supervising a machine shop or manufacturing environment with hands-on knowledge of CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, press brakes, and manual machining tools Strong understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T specifications, and precision measurement techniques using micrometers and calipers Proficiency in CNC programming, CAM programming software, and SolidWorks for design interpretation and modification Knowledge of welding processes such as MIG welding along with fabrication skills involving hand tools and power tools Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) for machine automation troubleshooting Mechanical knowledge related to tooling setup, fabrication techniques, assembly procedures, and quality control standards Ability to operate warehouse equipment including forklifts safely and efficiently Basic math skills necessary for precise measurements and calculations in machining tasks Experience with lean manufacturing practices to streamline operations and improve productivity Strong communication skills for effective team leadership and collaboration across departments Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Applicant should be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S. Government. Preferred Qualifications Experience in aerospace, defense, or FAA-regulated environments Familiarity with NADCAP processes (if applicable) Lean/Six Sigma certification Working Conditions Shop floor environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and metalworking fluids Standing, walking, and occasional lifting (up to ~50 lbs
