Job Description

U.S. Salt LLC is located on the shore of Seneca Lake in Watkins Glen, NY and has been in operation since 1893. Currently an industry leader in food grade and pharmaceutical salt production, US Salt also has a strong presence in oil development, textiles and dyes, and water softener products. US Salt is currently seeking highly motivated and dedicated Production Supervisor. This position is on a rotating 12 hour schedule.
Summary:
The Production Supervisor ensures that salt production needs are met with high quality, efficiency, and in the most profitable manner.
Qualifications:
Minimum of an associate degree (A.S.) with 2 years of related experience in a supervisory role, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to provide leadership to and direct/review the work of +/- 15 unionized employees. Must be willing and flexible enough to work various shifts, weekends and Holidays. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, with basic to intermediate computer skills. Must have strong organizational skills; flexibility and ability to coordinate multiple priorities. Ability to create and adhere to production processes. Knowledgeable with plumbing, heating and cooling systems. Displays an attitude conducive to progress through positive change, continuous improvement and active contributor to the teamwork concept.
Responsibilities/Duties:
Directly supervises union employees in accordance with company's policies, applicable laws, and union contract language. This includes, but not limited to, training, planning, assigning, directing, disciplining, rewarding, and appraising assigned workforce. Ensures the accurate reporting of employee time and accounts to be charged to payroll and finance. Ensures that machines are functional within the evaporating process (PAN) of salt manufacturing, and that materials and supplies are in a positive flow. This includes, but not limited to, boilers, generators, dryers, and the conveyance of dry salt to other departments. Regularly communicates expectations, performance and other key issues with team members. Serves as a primary contact with shop and office personnel related to compliance of safety and company standards. Ensures effective operation of the production area and that targets and quality standards are met. Evaluates various stations of the production operation to ensure optimum efficiency including the brine fields. Assists in the development and implementation of safety, cost and quality improvement plans.
