Job Description

Position Summary The Machine Shop Supervisor provides daily leadership and technical direction to machine shop production team members to ensure safety, quality, productivity, and customer delivery expectations are consistently achieved. This role serves as the primary operational and technical resource for the machine shop team, supporting troubleshooting, machine setups, workflow coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities Lead and support machine shop production personnel to meet safety, quality, and output goals Review production schedules and assign personnel to support manufacturing priorities and workflow efficiency Serve as the first point of contact for machining-related troubleshooting, technical questions, and process issues Support machine setups, job transfers, tooling decisions, and equipment utilization Sign off on DMRs, approve engineering tooling purchases, and authorize low-cost scrap events within approval limits Ensure effective communication across shifts and maintain operational continuity Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and waste reduction Support lean manufacturing efforts and process improvement activities Develop, coach, train, and evaluate team members to support growth and performance improvement Maintain production documentation, reporting, and operational records Coordinate TPM activities and preventive maintenance efforts Partner with Manufacturing Leadership and HR on hiring, onboarding, training, counseling, and corrective action processes Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and safety standards Perform additional duties as assigned Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years of machine shop experience, including 1-2 years performing machine setups Minimum 3 years of leadership, supervisory, or lead experience in a manufacturing environment Strong understanding of machine shop operations, including: Spindle, feed, and rapid overrides Print reading and part inspection to print requirements Machine troubleshooting and basic operation Basic understanding of CNC programming, including commonly used G-codes and M-codes Understanding of machine capabilities and limitations to support efficient job transfers and production efficiency Experience with ERP or MRP systems such as SAP or similar manufacturing systems preferred Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement methods, and production planning preferred Strong communication, problem-solving, organizational, and team leadership skills Working knowledge of quality systems, manufacturing metrics, and operational reporting preferred Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent required College coursework or additional training in Lean Manufacturing, APICS, Quality Systems, or related fields preferred Proven success leading teams in a manufacturing or machining environment Work Environment This role operates in both office and shop environments and requires standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally, and working around active machinery, noise, and varying temperatures.
