Oversee layup activities to meet planned production requirements and on-time shipments in new, state-of-the-art plywood manufacturing plant.
Position Functions:
Essential Functions
- These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job . Coordinate daily run schedule with all required layup machine centers. Spreaders and presses
- coordinate layup constructions to make the proper products desired.
Monitor to assure correct layup, production target times and pressing operations are being used to meet industry and internal quality specifications. Ensure proper glue for specified glue mix products. Ensure proper veneer grades and laminates are used to meet customer required specifications. Manage and organize daily WIP inventory. Maintains set standard for orderlLayuiness and organization of department. Utilize the principles of performance improvement to identify issues and/or opportunities that if modified or corrected will improve results. Work with QC to troubleshoot quality manufacturing issues for layup and educate leads and employees. Take the lead in safety. Ensure that all workers under his/her supervision are given adequate safety training, coaching and proper tools to safely do the job. Promote safety awareness. Ensure proper use of lockout/tagout/retry and PPE. Encourage good housekeeping. Respond to employee and safety committee safety concerns in a timely manner. Coordinate major repair and maintenance schedules with maintenance and electrical staff. Be familiar with all equipment and its operation (including machine capabilities, product quality and standard production rates). Policies & Procedures
- Support and promote company policies and procedures while encouraging positive behavior in each member of the layup team. Coordinate the completion of administrative paperwork and reporting related to production reports, scheduling, personnel actions, timekeeping and safety. Other duties as assigned. - Run machinery when needed and only when you have been fully trained on the machinery.
Assist in the training of employee advancement.

Skills :
(1) A bachelor's degree or 3 years of supervisory experience in plywood manufacturing. (2) Visually identify defects and grades associated with dry veneer, blanks and panels. (3) Computer skills
- experience with Excel, Word, and presentation software (PowerPoint).
(4) Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal with all levels of the company from hourly, supervisors, vendors, and management. The communication needs to be direct without being confrontational and needs to accurately assess areas in need of improvement without exaggerating the gravity of the issue. (5) Analytical skills
- experience utilizing Quality Systems, statistical sampling, and utilizing data to see trends. (6) Training skills
- Ability to train, educate foreman, supervisors, leads and employees. Present training and education via job guides, SOP's, and/or PowerPoint presentations. (7) Tools
- proficient with micrometer, tape measure and panel knife for checking bond quality.
(8) Ability to work with little supervision. Must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task.
