Production Manager Position Summary The Lead Welder is responsible for supervising welding personnel, ensuring weld quality, maintaining production schedules, and supporting continuous workflow throughout the fabrication process. This position performs advanced welding and fabrication tasks while coordinating with laser, forming, machining, and assembly departments to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on time. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership & Supervision Lead, train, and mentor welders. Assign daily work based on production priorities. Monitor employee productivity and quality. Assist in employee evaluations and disciplinary actions when necessary. Promote a positive, safety-focused work environment. Welding & Fabrication Perform MIG, TIG, Flux-Core, and Stick welding on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, welding symbols, and work orders. Fit and weld fabricated components to print specifications. Verify dimensions and tolerances before, during, and after welding. Troubleshoot fabrication and welding issues.

Production Coordination Coordinate workflow between:

o Laser cutting o Press brake forming o Machining o Welding o Finishing/Paint Monitor job progress and identify bottlenecks. Communicate material shortages, drawing discrepancies, and production concerns to management. Ensure jobs move through production efficiently and meet customer deadlines. Quality Control Inspect welds for quality, appearance, penetration, and dimensional accuracy. Ensure compliance with customer specifications and company quality standards. Reduce rework, scrap, and warranty issues. Participate in root-cause investigations and corrective actions. Safety Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies. Ensure proper PPE usage. Conduct equipment inspections and report maintenance issues. Participate in safety meetings and training activities. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. 5+ years of welding and fabrication experience. 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred. Strong blueprint-reading skills. Experience building welding fixtures, jigs, and fabrication techniques. Knowledge of AWS welding standards preferred. Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred. Basic computer skills for ERP, job tracking, and production reporting. Physical Requirements Lift up to 50 lbs. Stand and walk for extended periods. Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, and welding fumes. Performance Metrics (KPIs) Weld quality and first-pass acceptance rate. Labor efficiency. Rework percentage. On-time job completion. Shop throughput. Safety performance. Employee retention and training progress. Material and consumable waste reduction.
