Job Description
The ideal candidate will have:
Strong knowledge base/subject matter expert: Expert on the processes and systems of the treatment processes. Troubleshoots problems and disseminates knowledge to operations staff Knowledge of regulatory compliance: Knowledge of compliance with the facilities permits. Takes leads in ensuring that data and samples are properly collected that support compliance. Verifies compliance with permits. Exposure to regulatory record keeping Trainer mentality: Communicates knowledge on plant processes to train and educate junior level operators effectively Relationship-building skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish trust and collaboration across all levels of the organization.Organizational excellence:

Wastewater Management positions are responsible for providing uninterrupted sewer service to residents during extreme inclement weather or other emergencies. This position is designated as emergency service and is subject to 24-hour on-call and may be required to report to work during extreme inclement weather or other emergencies, including after-hours and weekend work during emergency incidents to fulfill emergency service duties.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or G.E.D. issued by a state department of education and eight years of experience as an operator in a Class I wastewater facility which includes one year of experience in a position similar to a Plant OperatorIII. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
A valid driver's license. A Class I Wastewater Treatment Operator's certification issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia within one year of appointment.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and a medical examination to the satisfaction of the employer.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in the wastewater treatment processes and operations including nutrient removal, wastewater reclamation, and solids stabilization. Experience in an industrial wastewater setting Experience overseeing or managing preventive, corrective and emergency repairs to industrial equipment in the most efficient and effective manner to reduce equipment downtime Experience performing inspections of plant operating assets to ensure proper functioning Class I wastewater treatment licensure issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia Possession of a Confined Space Training certificate.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in written form, is crucial for engaging with colleagues and customers through phone calls, video conferences, and face-to-face meetings. Ability to drive county vehicle to jobsites in field to perform field investigations, and drive to various other locations for administrative meetings. Ability to endure variable and extreme weather conditions such as hot, cold, during rain, noisy environments, etc., and the ability to work around and in contact with raw sewage. Ability to lift/ slide up to 90 lbs. with assistance. Must be able to physically negotiate rough terrain on uneven ground such as hills, wooded and marshy areas to make direct observation of work in progress including recognizing unforeseen hazards such as sharp objects, warning signs, slippery surfaces, steep depressions, tripping hazards. Must be able to push, pull, lift, bend, stoop, walk, climb/crouch, crawl, stand and reach to work in demanding and uncomfortable positions for extended durations. Physically and mentally able to use all applicable personal protective equipment in an outdoor environment; including hardhat, eye protection, hearing protection, and safety footwear. Visual acuity is required to effectively work on computer monitors, review documents, and read text and data for prolonged durations. The incumbent must possess the ability to operate keyboard-driven devices to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer.
