  • Full-time Overview The VDC Engineer supports project delivery through the development, coordination, and implementation of Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) fabrication processes.
This role is hands-on and technical, focused on processing and coordinating fabrication packages for field installation, while also being intentionally positioned for growth into a Fabrications Operations Manager. The VDC Fab Engineer will progressively take on increased responsibility for fabrication standardization, and cross-functional collaboration, preparing them to lead fabrication execution at the project and program level.
Key Responsibilities:
VDC Execution Develop, update, and manage work packages (primarily mechanical/HVAC piping and plumbing systems) in Revit to support coordination, fabrication, and installation. Participate in and support multi-trade coordination using Stratus and/or Revit Model. . Maintain model quality, organization, and file management per company and project standards. Coordination & Project Support Collaborate with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, foremen, and fabrication/shop teams to ensure fabrication deliverables meet field needs.
Assist with the development of:
Installation drawings Spool sheets Hanger maps Layout and prefabrication packages (as applicable) Field & Prefabrication Enablement Support field teams by providing model-based installation support, including model views for tablets, layout coordination, and sequencing visuals. Assist with prefabrication workflows by translating models into fabrication-ready outputs (spools, assemblies, BOMs, cut lists). Participate in jobsite visits to validate constructability, fabrication accuracy, and improve future fabrication approaches. Standards, QA/QC & Best Practices Follow company VDC/BIM standards and contribute to continuous improvement of templates, workflows, and checklists. Perform self-QA/QC on models prior to coordination releases or field issuance. Assist with documentation of workflows, lessons learned, and project closeout model requirements. Support compliance with owner and
GC BIM/VDC
contractual requirements. Track and report shop productivity. Professional Development & Leadership Growth Demonstrate increasing ownership of fabrication deliverables and timelines. Mentor junior VDC staff and interns. Contribute ideas for process improvement, technology adoption, and workflow efficiencies.
Develop foundational leadership skills including:
Running fabrication portions of Project Management meetings Communicating technical information clearly to non-VDC stakeholders Progressively prepare for responsibilities aligned with a future Fabrication Operations Manager role, including project planning, higher-level leadership, and stakeholder alignment.
Experience and Skills:
3+ years of experience in VDC fabrication in the construction industry (mechanical/HVAC preferred).
Proficiency in:
Revit Bluebeam Navisworks Autodesk Construction Cloud / BIM 360 (or similar platforms) Microsoft 365 Understanding of construction documents, shop drawing development, and coordination workflows. Ability to interpret design intent and translate it into constructible models. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
