Job Title:
General Production Job Description This is a 6‑week contract position in a high‑volume food production facility specializing in cured meats. You will work on a fast‑paced production line, handling tasks from raw meat processing to packaging and palletizing finished products. The role involves frequent heavy lifting, use of knives and mixers, and working in a cold, wet environment while following strict safety and manufacturing procedures. Responsibilities Work on a production line producing various cured meat products from raw ingredients through to packaging and shipping. Perform labeling, packaging, and palletizing of finished products in an efficient and accurate manner. Carry out general warehouse duties, including cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining a safe and organized work area. Lift and move products and materials weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the shift. Learn and operate mixers to prepare different salami mixtures according to established recipes and procedures. Perform casing of salami as well as peeling finished products as required by production demands. Use knives and cutting tools to cut meat safely and accurately, following all safety and hygiene protocols. Properly utilize production facility equipment such as choppers, mixers, stuffers, and other machinery to craft food products. Follow established General Manufacturing Procedures and Safety Protocols at all times, including hygiene and sanitation standards. Inspect products and packaging for quality, ensuring accuracy in labeling and adherence to product specifications. Adapt to changing production needs and perform different tasks on the line as assigned by supervisors. Work overtime as needed to meet production requirements, including occasional weekend shifts. Communicate effectively with team members in a diverse, multilingual environment to maintain smooth production flow. Essential Skills Previous experience in food production or a similar production environment. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift. Knife skills and good manual dexterity for meat cutting and handling tasks. Comfort working in a cold and wet environment, including a cold room at approximately 40-50 degrees. Ability to work safely around raw meat and blood and remain comfortable in a meat production setting. Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate labeling, packaging, and adherence to product specifications. Consistent adherence to General Manufacturing Procedures and Safety Protocols. Reliable transportation to consistently arrive on time for a 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM shift. Ability to follow instructions, learn equipment operation (choppers, mixers, stuffers), and work effectively on a production line. Capability to work overtime and occasional weekends to meet changing production needs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in meat production, including working with mixers and other food production equipment. Experience in a kitchen, warehouse, or other high‑volume production environment. Comfort working in a predominantly Spanish‑speaking environment. Demonstrated reliability and strong work ethic in previous roles. Ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in a food manufacturing setting. Why Work Here? The workplace is predominantly Spanish‑speaking, offering a multilingual team environment. Standard hours are 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with the need for overtime and occasional weekend work to meet production demands. Work attire should be appropriate for a cold, wet production setting and compatible with provided safety and sanitation gear. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Berkeley, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
