At this time, we have outstanding career opportunities available for Water Utility Worker in our Public Works Department. The current vacancies are within the Water Production division. The ideal candidate is a motivated and dependable team player with a strong work ethic and a commitment to public service. They bring a solid foundation of knowledge and skills necessary to perform a variety of manual labor tasks in diverse and often challenging field conditions. This individual adheres to safety protocols and demonstrates a willingness to learn and grow through hands-on experience and formal training. The Department The Water Production Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's water supply infrastructure, The division oversees 4 Water Reservoirs, 10 Water Wells, 3 Booster Stations, 3 import Water Connections and maintains 15 flood control stations. The division plays a vital role in sustaining public health, environmental safety, and City-wide Fire Flow Protection. The Position Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled or semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair and construction of the City's mechanical and electrical control system work to operate, maintain and repair various machinery, components and facilities of the City's water production and flood control systems. The Water Utility Worker differs from the Senior Water Utility Worker in that the Water Utility Worker has less experience, expertise, and certification requirements. Performs maintenance of the City's water production operations systems Observes standard operating procedures and safety practices Responds to emergency calls for service on a call-out basis; works various hours, including nights and weekends as deemed necessary to meet deadlines and conform with changing priorities Reports to work as scheduled; maintains a regular and consistent attendance record Attends training; supports and actively promotes the City's safety programs; assists with periodic safety inspections; identifies and corrects safety hazards Travels to various locations to conduct daily inspections of all water production facilities, water storage facilities, and flood control stations; identifies any improper functioning of equipment or operations Maintains and repairs natural gas engines, chlorine gas-feed systems, computer based control and telemetry devices, power transmission components and drivelines, and pumps used in municipal water supply production and flood control systems Installs and maintains water, gas, air and other plumbing and hydraulic lines Monitors reservoirs; observes and records readings from various reservoir measuring devices Participates in the construction, operation and maintenance of chemical treatment stations and filtration systems Removes and replaces chlorine cylinders and maintains record of chlorine consumption Computes dosage and concentration of various chemicals for maintenance of the system Troubleshoots and repairs Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) computer systems Transports and offloads fluoride to water system facilities Maintains accurate logs, records and files of work performed and materials and equipment used Click here to view the full job description Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position is qualifying.A typical combination includes:
Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent certificate.Experience:
Two (2) years' experience in construction or maintenance and repair of water distribution, water production or industrial equipment, or wastewater collection systems.Licenses/Certifications:
A valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required at the time of appointment and throughout employment. California Class B driver's license with HAZMAT Handler permit required within one (1) year of appointment to position. Must obtain Grade 1 Water Treatment Operator Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board within one (1) year of appointment.SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Positions in this classification are deemed safety sensitive under Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and subject to drug and alcohol testing. Employees regularly assigned/required to drive a City or personal vehicle in the course and scope of work shall be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program.Public Employee Disaster Service Worker:
