This is not a desk job — you will be on the floor every day, contributing directly to the build process while guiding, supporting, and developing your team. You are an experienced craftsperson who leads by example. You take pride in your work, hold high standards, and know how to bring out the best in the people around you. You are passionate about open hardware and eager to help shape the future of computing in a meaningful, tangible way. Key Responsibilities Building open hardware computer chassis and keyboards alongside your team Using pneumatic and power tools, lasers, mills, brakes, and more Combining parts using jigs and build guides Monitoring, mentoring, and developing production staff on technique, safety, and quality standards Assigning daily tasks and managing workflow to meet production goals Conducting or assisting with quality checks as parts move from the Production team to the Assembly team Identifying and resolving production bottlenecks or personnel issues in a timely manner Maintaining a perfectly clean and safe work environment and enforcing safety protocols Communicating clearly and professionally with both staff and management Other duties as assigned Required Skills and Experience Prior experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or production environment Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience, formal or informal Ability to lead with patience, clarity, and a team-first attitude Strong communication and conflict resolution skills Excellent hand-eye coordination and dexterity Must enjoy teamwork, mentoring others, variety, and working with your hands Understanding that safety is paramount — for yourself and your team Able to lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds Able to stand for long periods and work at production pace Able to work quickly and efficiently while maintaining top quality Bonus Qualifications Experience with 3D printers Experience with mills Experience with lasers Experience in a technology hardware or electronics manufacturing environment About System76 System76 is the leading provider of Pop!_OS & Ubuntu laptops, desktops, and servers, and a champion of the open source community.
