Production Assistant Overview:
The Production Assistant assists with all elements of the Productions staged in the Rome School, recitals, concerts, and rentals in the Rome School's buildings. Specifically, this position oversees, schedules, and manages more than 100 degree recitals and events that take place in the Ward Recital Hall. The Production Assistant primarily serves the technical needs of the music unit; they oversee all crew credit assignments and hours worked. The Production Assistant supervises student workers in Ward Recital Hall/Production office and may provide direction to Student Workers are assigned to other areas of the production area as needed. The Rome School of Performing Arts annually produces a mainstage season of 5 productions on average, dozens of ensemble concerts on and off campus (including the Christmas concert for charity in the Basilica), over 100 recitals, and lends assistance to smaller studio productions generated by Departmental areas. While the Production Assistant works with the staff and students in the entire Production Department to provide technical expertise and logistics to all of the events listed above, this position specifically works in Ward Hall and supports the specific technical needs of the music unit.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate all degree recital dress rehearsals. Support the day-to-day technical needs of the music unit. Schedule all production-related events in Hartke & Ward Recital Hall, coordinating with student groups, faculty, staff, and outside rentals. Create programs for LAMC, WIPS, orchestra, etc., events. Assign all required crew positions, maintain records of completion, and enter grades. Create programs for all theatre and opera productions. Collect biographies for all production programs. Facilitate orchestra load-ins and load-outs. Overseeing and coordinating student workers who manage the concerts and events. that takes place in Ward, Hartke. Notifying facilities or production of any building maintenance and work order requests for Ward Recital Hall. Moving production equipment between events. Presence at production meetings, tech rehearsals, and performances as needed. -Coordinate with the Technical Director in order to facilitate the maintenance of the Ward rep plot and JPH lighting instruments and equipment. Train students, staff, faculty, etc., on how to use the lighting system in the Ward Recital Hall. Coordinate the collection of rented materials (scores, scripts, etc). Assist in staffing and running auditions and callbacks. Maintaining regular correspondence with marketing and/or box office for all upcoming events and event descriptions Send a weekly email to DPS summarizing all after-hours space occupation of Ward and Hartke as needed Be reasonably on-call as scheduled via phone during productions in the case of emergency tech support needs Work with members of production on various tasks related to the completion of mainstage tech weeks.
Qualifications:
High School or GED with a minimum 1 year of technical theatre experience and experience coordinating schedules and monitoring production operations.
