Job Description

This is manual work supporting daily Sanitation operations of the wash rack area involving operating specialized automotive cleaning equipment and high-pressure water hoses used in cleaning sanitation vehicles and equipment . This assignment includes, but is not limited to, assisting in the daily preventative scheduled greasing of the sanitation vehicles, including pivot, rotating, and other areas on the equipment; performing vehicle maintenance activities such as checking and adding oil, filling the fuel tank, bleeding air tanks, lubricating equipment, and checking fluid levels and tire inflation; and generally assisting drivers of sanitation vehicles engaged in solid waste collection and disposal activities. This work is performed in all types of weather. Assignments will vary and may require work on weekends and holidays. Working hours are typically Monday through Tuesday, 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Thursday through Friday, 1:00 p.m. through 9:30 p.m.

$17.64 - $23.72

Applicants must:
Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License. Be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster. Desirable Qualifications.
Preferred applicants:
Have a background in heavy truck driving and mechanical maintenance. Have a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
The successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of appointment, or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg. This requirement is not applicable to current City employees who were hired before October 20, 1997. Selection Process
