General Production Worker Job Description We are seeking a dedicated General Production Worker to provide essential support in our machine shop. You will primarily focus on the plainer side, collaborating closely with plainer operators, handling raw materials, and ensuring their proper weights and amounts. Your role will include conducting basic quality checks on finished products, operating a machine that straightens machined bars, making wooden crates for shipping, and using a sander to smooth out rough spots. Responsibilities Work alongside plainer operators to manage tasks on the plainer side. Handle and weigh incoming raw materials to ensure correct quantities. Perform basic quality checks on finished products. Operate the machine that straightens machined bars. Construct wooden crates for shipping purposes. Use a sander to remove rough spots from products. Essential Skills Minimum of 2 years experience in machine operating or heavy industrial work. Experience in a manufacturing environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a steel or machine shop is advantageous. No CNC experience required. Work Environment This position is based in a small machine shop specializing in large metal parts used to bend steel. The work environment includes approximately 20 operators on the floor, with this role being the sole machinist. The shop can be dirty with steel scrapings on the floor. Candidates must have their own basic tools and steel toe boots. Glasses and ear plugs are provided. The dress code is street clothes that can get dirty. The work shift is from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Thursday. Why Work Here? Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00/hr.
