Production Worker Job Description This role operates and monitors food production processes, including mixing, extrusion, polishing, and finishing, to ensure products consistently meet quality and safety specifications. You will handle ingredients, run and adjust equipment, transfer batches between processes, and maintain accurate documentation while working in a Good Manufacturing Practices ( GMP ) environment. Responsibilities + Operate and monitor production processes such as mixing, extrusion, polishing, and finishing to produce high-quality food products. + Read and follow manufacturing order instructions to identify required ingredients, quantities, and process steps. + Gather, measure, weigh, and document ingredients according to manufacturing orders, ensuring accuracy and traceability. + Load ingredients, which may weigh up to 50 pounds, into mixers and other production equipment in a safe and efficient manner. + Blend ingredients based on specified time and process parameters, adjusting equipment as needed to maintain product quality. + Unload mixers and transfer mixed batches to the next process using drums, carts, or trays while maintaining cleanliness and organization. + Process mixing batches through extrusion equipment to create finished product, monitoring controls and adjusting settings as required. + Use product controls and sensory checks to ensure finished products meet customer specifications throughout the extrusion process. + Manage and transfer finished product from extrusion and drying processes to polishing and finishing stages. + Operate polishing (panning) equipment by loading finished product from drums, carts, or trays into polishing pans and adding liquid ingredients by hand or through automated systems. + Apply the final finishing touches to products, ensuring they meet appearance, texture, and quality standards before packaging. + Use hand tools such as RF scanners, hand trucks, and sifting screeners to support production and material handling activities. + Follow all safety rules, operating instructions, and manuals, and accurately interpret shipping and production documents. + Maintain a clean and organized work area by following GMP and sanitation procedures, including required washing and sanitizing steps. + Support quality and sanitation efforts by working collaboratively with production, sanitation, quality assurance, and maintenance teams. + Work assigned shifts (1st or 2nd), participate in orientation, and be willing to work overtime and occasional Saturdays as needed. + Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and teamwork to meet production schedules and operational goals. Essential Skills + At least 1 year of recent manufacturing experience in a production environment. + Experience with mixing, extrusion, batching, polishing, and finishing processes preferred; training is provided if needed. + Ability to operate production and processing equipment safely and effectively. + Ability to use hand tools such as RF scanners, hand trucks, and sifting screeners. + Capability to lift and move up to 50-60 pounds with or without accommodation. + Strong English and math skills, including the ability to read, write, and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, manuals, and shipping documents. + Willingness to work overtime and occasional Saturdays as required by production demands. + Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, and ability to work effectively as part of a team. + Comfort working in a GMP
- regulated food production environment with strict hygiene and sanitation requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications + Prior experience in food manufacturing or a GMP environment is a plus. + Familiarity with extrusion and polishing (panning) processes is beneficial. + Experience working with multiple production rooms and packaging lines. + Comfort using sensory evaluation to assess product quality. + Ability to adapt to different production roles such as production, sanitation, quality assurance, and maintenance support as needed.
