PRIMARY FUNCTION
Perform a wide range of duties in various areas of the Rod Mill
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work in accordance with all applicable Safe Job Procedures and standard practices
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Assist other Rod Mill employees
  • Shovels scale
  • Clean sluiceways
  • Cut scrap
  • Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and the quality system
  • Assist on roll, changes and section changes
  • Assist in cleaning cobbles and investigations
  • Operate remote control crane and tractor as needed
  • Learn basic tasks of all jobs in the Rod Mill
  • Provide necessary coverage during breaks and absences
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance
  • Assists Maintenance to maintain/repair equipment including retrieval of parts and tools
  • May be assigned work as required in other areas of Sterling Steel Company
SSC EMPLOYEES ARE EXPECTED TO
  • Self-assign work and remain productive without constant supervision
  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformity related to product, process, and the system.
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels
  • Train for other positions and apply for promotions when available
MUST BE WILLING & ABLE TO WORK IN THE FOLLOWING ENVIRONMENT
  • Extreme temperatures
  • Heights
  • Confined spaces
  • Wearing P.P.E. (hard hat, gloves, boots, ear plugs, uniform, etc)
  • Without access to cell phones, music devices, etc…
  • 12-hour shirts
  • Rotating schedules including nights, weekends & holidays
EXPERIENCE
  • Previous production/manufacturing experience preferred
  • Use of similar tools and machinery preferred
  • Steel industry experience not required but helpful
REQUIREMENTS
