Job Title:
Sewing Machine Operator Pay $15 per hour (Weekly Pay) Shift - 6AM- 3:30PM Job Description The Sewing Machine Operator assembles tailored garments and uniform apparel using high-speed industrial sewing equipment and performs manual tasks involved in the final finishing of garments. This role focuses on precision, quality, and productivity within a unionized manufacturing environment that produces high-quality, custom-fit apparel for military, law enforcement, emergency services, and other government and federal customers. The position operates under a piece-rate compensation system tied to individual productivity and includes ongoing training and skill development. Responsibilities Operate and learn to operate a variety of high-speed manual, automated, and semi-automated industrial sewing machines, including single-needle, double-needle, serger, and programmable flatbed machines. Use a variety of materials and threads, such as cotton, rayon, polyester, wool, and fabric blends, in accordance with product specifications. Sew garment components with a high level of precision, ensuring proper alignment, pattern matching, and consistent quality stitching at various stages of garment construction. Fit, alter, and construct made-to-measure garments according to customer specifications and the guidelines of each order. Read and interpret work orders, patterns, and technical packs to ensure garments meet design and quality requirements. Participate continuously in coaching and training on sewing techniques, garment styles, and production methods to improve both quality and efficiency. Monitor individual productivity and overall plant performance using digital screens and performance tracking systems. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet and exceed daily and weekly production goals. Perform basic sewing machine maintenance, including cleaning and thread changes, throughout the shift to ensure smooth operation. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation in compliance with company safety protocols and quality standards. Inspect work regularly to ensure garments meet quality expectations before moving to the next stage of production. Essential Skills Experience operating industrial sewing machines in a production or manufacturing environment. Proficiency in sewing and garment assembly with attention to detail and consistent quality. Ability to read and interpret work orders, patterns, and technical packs. Capability to work with various fabrics and threads, including cotton, rayon, polyester, wool, and fabric blends. Strong focus on precision, alignment, pattern matching, and quality stitching. Comfort working in a performance-driven environment with piece-rate compensation tied to productivity. Ability to perform basic sewing machine maintenance and thread changes. Willingness to participate in ongoing training and skill development. Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to achieve production goals. Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in garment manufacturing, tailoring, or uniform production. Familiarity with digital performance tracking systems and production metrics. Experience working with made-to-measure or custom-fit garments. Ability to adapt to different garment styles and construction techniques. The environment may experience hot and cold temperatures depending on the season and production conditions. The workday involves extended periods of sitting or standing at the sewing station, handling various fabrics and threads, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace in line with safety and quality protocols. Appropriate work attire suitable for a production floor is expected to support safety, comfort, and ease of movement while operating machinery. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Hodgenville, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35000.00 - $45000.00/yr. 401k / Pension Benefits after 30 days Work Life Balance Workplace Type This is a fully onsite position in Hodgenville,KY.
