Job Description

Press Shear Operator Location:
Lockport, LA Position Overview:
The Press Shear Operator is responsible for the safe operation of metal fabrication equipment to bend and cut materials according to detailed specifications for the construction of vessels, barges, and other marine structures. The ideal candidate should be skilled in interpreting construction drawings, familiar with standard marine construction practices, and proficient in bending and cutting processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate press/shear metal fabrication equipment to produce materials according to specified dimensions and tolerances. Read and interpret construction drawings and other guidance documents accurately. Ensure adherence to standard marine practices and construction specifications. Set up and adjust machinery using hand tools such as clamps and blades. Monitor machine operations to detect any malfunctions or irregularities and implement corrective actions as directed. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Qualifications:
Minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience in a similar role preferred. In-depth knowledge of bending and cutting processes and techniques. Familiarity with hand tools used for machine setup and adjustments. Ability to identify machine problems and follow instructions to implement corrective actions. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety practices in the workplace.
Skills and Abilities:
Experience in a marine or shipyard environment. Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to precision in fabrication tasks. Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
