Quality Department has an opening for a Quality Specialist. This position will be scheduled Monday through Friday, Dayshift. Overtime and weekend work may be required as needed. Responsibilities:
Diagnose, respond and resolve shop floor and quality related issues with urgency and accuracy. Communicate with vendors and suppliers regarding nonconformance and quality expectations. Collaborate with internal teams, cross functional groups, external partners, and production staff to solve problems, support projects, and promote a strong team-oriented environment aligned with the Laitram Business Philosophy. Role requires managing tasks and priorities without daily supervision. Perform incoming and outgoing quality inspections, including regular assessments of materials and finished products. Reject non-conforming products/materials and implement containment plans when necessary. Read and interpret engineering drawings, plans, and specifications. Creates CMM programs and other electronic aided equipment programs. Recommend and support improvements to production processes to enhance quality control. Document inspection results through detailed reports and performance records. Lead and support production teams in addressing quality concerns for production parts. Assess overall quality performance and contribute to strategic plans, processes, and metrics for improvement. Perform a variety of advanced Quality Assurance tasks. Track medium to large scale projects and provide regular updates. Work closely with and, when needed, direct Quality and Manufacturing associates to complete projects. Develop, follow, and maintain instructions and guidelines required for job functions. Ability to remain effective and meet deadlines during periods of high workload.
Requirements:
High school diploma 3-5 years of experience in quality assurance experience in a manufacturing environment, or an undergraduate degree in a technical or quantitative field. Hands on experience with mechanical systems and a strong understanding of quality standards, testing methods, and basic statistics. Proficiency in MS Office, including the ability to create data driven reports and graphs. Strong math, technical, problem solving, and project management skills. Manage shifting priorities and multiple tasks during periods of high workload. High attention to detail and a willingness to support both short- and long-term manufacturing goals. Ability to work overtime or weekends as needed and travel to vendor or customer sites, including periodic travel, including occasional overnight trips. Must be able to perform the essential job requirements identified in the Functional Job Description for this position, including the ability to lift and move 47 lbs
Desired Qualifications:
Quality Assurance or Quality Control certification are preferred, with at least 2 years of experience in a similar role. Experience in a Quality Assurance role with a focus of process improvements Possess an ASQ or equivalent certification Experience in a mass production inspection environment Experience implementing SPC and/or Six-Sigma concepts Knowledge of best practices for the Quality Assurance function in a Manufacturing environment Experience with quality tools such as CMM or other measuring systems.
