Apply now. 1st Shift Shear Operator Great Company to work for: Company/Owner Appreciation Family culture Health/dental/vision PTO / holiday pay 401k, 3% match Shear Operator Pay range : $24.00 - 30.00/hour, depending on experience.
Shear Operator Shift :
Monday- Thursday, 5 am to 3:30 pm. Friday 5 am to 11am am Mandatory OT based on project needs. As a Shear Operator you will be a vital link in our custom architectural metal fabrication process. We are looking for a precision-focused professional to set up and operate hydraulic power shears, ensuring every cut—whether in steel, aluminum, or stainless—meets our high standards for accuracy and quality.
Key Responsibilities Precision Operation:
Set up and operate hydraulic power shears to cut materials to exact dimensions and angles.
Machine Programming:
Independently program and modify machine parameters for both standard jobs and complex, custom architectural pieces.
Quality Assurance:
Conduct in-process and final inspections using calipers, micrometers, and tape measures to ensure all parts meet tight tolerances.
Technical Interpretation:
Read and interpret blueprints; perform layout and nesting independently to maximize material efficiency, even when formal drawings are not provided.
Maintenance & Calibration:
Adjust machine settings (blade gap, rake angle, back-gauge) and perform daily equipment checks. Report any maintenance needs to the Shop Foreman.
Inventory & Documentation:
Pull materials and maintain real-time inventory accuracy by logging data in QuickBase and ensuring all stock is properly tagged and organized.
Safety & Organization:
Maintain a clean, hazard-free workspace and adhere to all safety protocols to protect yourself and the team.
What You Bring Experience:
At least 3 years of hydraulic shear operation in a fabrication setting (Architectural metal experience is a major plus).
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in CNC machine programming and a strong ability to read/interpret blueprints.
Mathematics:
Strong math skills with the ability to calculate dimensions and layout parts accurately.
Digital Literacy:
Comfortable using computers for data entry (QuickBase) and machine interface.
Independence:
A self-starter who can manage their time and solve problems with minimal supervision.
Work Environment & Physical Demands Setting:
A high-energy, fast-paced fabrication shop.
Physical:
Ability to stand for long shifts, bend, reach, and regularly lift/move metal sheets weighing up to 50 lbs .
