Production Associate Job Description The Production Associate supports metal fabrication and packaging operations by handling finished skids, preparing sheet metal products, and assisting with trim bending and material handling. This role involves working with sheet metal components, using basic hand tools and banding equipment, and, if certified, operating a forklift to move and store materials safely. The position offers exposure to multiple areas of the shop, including banding, crating, trimming, and general production support. Responsibilities Take finished skids from the mill and load them with sheet metal from the bender in an accurate and efficient manner. Determine appropriate packaging materials or coverings for each order and apply coverings to protect sheet metal products during storage and shipment. If forklift certified, safely place loaded skids in the designated rack locations and accurately identify and locate stored materials. Cut longer sheet metal panels (shortcuts) into shorter panels that are below the mill's cutting capabilities, following measurements and quality standards. Band products from horses or on a roller table, ensuring secure and stable banding for transport and storage. Assemble, band, and nail crates together using a nail gun, following safety procedures and construction guidelines. Assist with running Quadro product and condenstop as an extra material handler when needed, supporting smooth production flow. Work in the trim role as part of a tandem team to bend trim, end caps, fascia, and related components to required specifications. Follow all safety procedures when operating equipment, tools, and machinery, including forklifts where applicable. Perform general production and warehouse duties such as organizing materials, staging orders, and maintaining a clean and orderly work area. Respond to short-notice overtime requests as needed, supporting production demands and on-time order fulfillment. Essential Skills Ability to perform general labor and production work in a warehouse or fabrication environment. Capability to handle sheet metal products safely and accurately during loading, cutting, and packaging. Willingness and ability to operate a forklift in a safe manner; prior forklift experience is preferred but not required. Basic mechanical aptitude to use banding equipment, roller tables, and nail guns following safety guidelines. Ability to work effectively in a tandem or team setting, particularly in the trim role bending trim, end caps, and fascia. Attention to detail when measuring and cutting panels to ensure accuracy and quality. Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move materials, and work in a metal shop environment. Reliability and flexibility to support short-notice overtime from 0 to 3 hours when required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a warehouse, metal fabrication, shipping and receiving, or general production environment is beneficial. Forklift certification or prior forklift operation experience is preferred for roles that require material handling with lift equipment. Experience with banding, crating, and using nail guns in a production or shipping setting is an advantage. Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication processes, including bending trim and related components, is helpful. Comfort working with hand tools and basic production equipment in a shop setting. Work Environment The role is based in a metal shop that produces steel building materials for structures such as pole sheds. The facility is fairly clean for a metal fabrication environment but can become dirty due to normal metalworking activities. You will work around sheet metal, banding stations, roller tables, and crating areas, and may use forklifts, nail guns, and other basic production tools. The team typically consists of around 10 year-round employees, with additional contractors brought on during the summer months, creating a busy but collaborative atmosphere. Work is performed on day shifts, with a Bander Operator schedule of 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (with a preference for forklift experience) and a Folder/Trimmer schedule of 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Short-notice overtime from 0 to 3 hours may be requested, usually with at least a day's notice, though occasionally on the same day. Dress is typical for a metal shop environment, requiring practical work attire suitable for working with steel materials and production equipment.
