Job Description

The Back Dock / Layflat Support Associate plays a key role in ensuring smooth and efficient warehouse and bindery operations. This position is responsible for managing outgoing shipments, pulling and filing job tickets, coordinating logistics for outside binding work, and providing support in the layflat binder area as needed. The role requires accuracy, communication, and flexibility to support multiple workflows in a fast-paced production environment. Key Responsibilities
  • Back Dock Operations
  • Prepare outbound shipments, including packaging, labeling, and documentation, coordinating PO's and truck lines
  • Maintain dock organization, ensuring materials are clearly identified and stored safely. Unload raw material trucks (mainly paper)
  • Communicate with production and logistics teams to prioritize outgoing loads.
  • Layflat Binder Support (Float Assignment)
  • Assist in loading pockets and staging work for the layflat binder.
  • Monitor material flow to ensure timely transitions between stages of production.
  • Perform basic machine support tasks under direction of the bindery lead.
  • Job Ticket Management & Logistics
  • Pull, file, and maintain physical job tickets for the planning area.
  • Coordinate send-outs for outside binding jobs, ensuring paperwork and tracking details are accurate.
  • Communicate with outside vendors and internal schedulers to confirm delivery and return dates.
  • Record and report completed send-outs and receipts for job status updates updating job status. Assist with month and raw material counts.
  • General
  • Follow all safety and housekeeping standards for dock and bindery areas.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying workflow or communication gaps.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall production schedule. Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior warehouse, shipping/receiving, or bindery experience preferred.
  • Ability to operate pallet jacks and other standard material-handling equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written instructions.
  • Basic computer and paperwork handling skills (job tickets, shipping logs, etc.).
  • Flexible to move between tasks and departments based on daily production needs.
PHYSICAL & SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
(with or without reasonable accommodation):
    Standing/Walking:
    up to 8-12 hours/shift on concrete floors.
      Lifting/Carrying:
      frequently up to 50 lbs.
        Posture/Movement:
        frequent bending, reaching, twisting; occasional kneeling and climbing short steps; manual dexterity for small adjustments.
          Vision/Hearing:
          near vision, depth perception, color/contrast discrimination for quality checks; hear alarms/forklifts/voice instructions in high-noise areas (hearing protection provided).
            WORKING CONDITIONS
            Production floor environment with moving machinery and forklift traffic; exposure to paper dust , inks/adhesives/cleaners, variable temperatures near dock doors, and elevated noise. PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, cut-resistant gloves as required) must be worn.
