Type:
full-time
Job Description:
The Manufacturing Engineer designs, optimizes, and troubleshoots precision machining processes. This role bridges the gap between design engineering and the shop floor-utilizing CAM programming, tooling design, and data-driven continuous improvement to maximize throughput, reduce cycle times, and ensure part quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Process Optimization:
Establish and optimize CNC machining parameters (speeds, feeds, tool paths) to minimize cycle times and scrap.
Programming & CAD/CAM:
Create, edit, and post G-code/M-code using CAM software for multi-axis milling and turning centers.
Fixture & Tooling Design:
Design custom fixtures, jigs, and specialized work-holding solutions using 3D CAD modeling.
Continuous Improvement:
Lead setup reduction (SMED), cycle time optimization, and root-cause analysis on manufacturing bottlenecks. New Product Introduction (NPI): Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews to transition new products smoothly into production.
Troubleshooting:
Provide hands-on shop floor support to resolve tool wear, dimensional non-conformances, and machine downtime.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (equivalent hands-on/toolmaker experience considered).
Experience:
3+ years in a precision CNC machining environment (milling, turning, or multi-axis).
Software:
Proficiency with CAM (e.g., Mastercam, NX, Fusion 360) and CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor).
Technical Skills:
Deep understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), precision metrology tools, and cutting tool metallurgy/geometry.
Soft Skills:
Strong collaboration skills to partner effectively with machine operators, quality teams, and leadership. Needs a well rounded self-starter manufacturing engineer as this is a smaller shop, they will wear many hats. Very hands-on, on the shop floor. Someone strong with machining/machine shop experience and their processes - CAD/CAM, reading prints, tooling management. they use Fusion360, Esprit, Autodesk but there will be very little if any actual programming or design work. Material planning/buying/tracking, some job quoting. Degree preferred but not required. no team or management in this role but will be working very closely with quality engineer, machinists/programmers, designers and manager.
