Off-Shift Knitting Change Mechanic Nester Hosiery - Mount Airy, NC Full-Time | Manufacturing Operations Position Summary Nester Hosiery is seeking an experienced Off-Shift Knitting Change Mechanic to support our knitting operations by executing efficient machine changeovers, preparing change kits, and helping improve overall first-quality efficiency and on-time shipment performance. This role is critical to minimizing downtime and ensuring production schedules are executed effectively across multiple knitting lines. The ideal candidate will have strong sock knitting experience, the ability to read and understand knitting specifications, and the flexibility to work closely with planning and off-shift operations teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Reports To:
Cortney Bowman - Lead Planner for Knitting Core Responsibilities Execute knitting machine changes efficiently to reduce downtime and improve first-quality efficiency. Prepare and build change kits for upcoming production changes. Prioritize machine changes based on production needs, shipment priorities, and schedule requirements. Yarn up new styles on knitting machines using: Sample socks Knitting specification sheets Required knitting programs Review and understand knitting specifications and machine setup requirements. Coordinate with off-shift supervisors to ensure smooth production transitions and issue resolution. Assist in maintaining accurate production and setup information within the company ERP system. Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on machine efficiency, quality, and schedule execution. Communicate potential production risks, setup issues, or material concerns proactively. Maintain safe and organized work areas during machine setup and changeover activities. Qualifications & Experience Minimum 3 years of sock knitting experience required. Ability to read and understand knitting specification sheets. Experience setting up and changing sock knitting machines preferred. Ability to yarn up and start new styles independently. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with shifting priorities. Ability to multi-task and manage multiple machine changes effectively. Experience interacting with ERP systems or manufacturing software preferred. Strong teamwork and communication skills.
