Yard Loader / Forklift Operator Job Description This role focuses on safely loading and unloading trailers using large forklifts and telehandlers in a yard environment. You will handle open-air flatbed trucks, secure loads of pipe, and complete the required paperwork for each load while working closely with drivers and yard team members. Responsibilities Load and unload trailers using a large forklift or telehandler in a yard setting. Handle open-air flatbed trucks and safely load various sizes of pipe and related materials. Secure and strap down all loads using appropriate straps, ropes, and tie-down equipment. Complete all required paperwork and documentation accurately for each load. Use RF scanning equipment as needed to track and record materials. Move materials efficiently between two nearby locations as required. Communicate professionally and courteously with truck drivers and internal employees. Follow all safety procedures and best practices while operating equipment and working in the yard. Inspect equipment before use and report any issues or safety concerns promptly. Essential Skills Experience operating large forklifts in a yard or similar outdoor setting. Ability to safely operate a telehandler or willingness to learn with internal certification. Comfort working in an environment that includes both indoor and outdoor tasks. Capability to strap and secure loads using various straps, ropes, and tie-down methods. Ability to complete load-related paperwork accurately and legibly. Strong communication skills and a pleasant attitude when working with truckers and internal staff. Basic familiarity with RF scanning or similar tracking tools. Commitment to safe work practices in a yard and loading environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience as a yard loader or in a similar material handling role. Experience working with open-air flatbed trucks and securing pipe or comparable materials. Comfort working between two nearby locations as part of the daily routine. Ability to work both independently and as part of a yard team. Willingness to obtain internal forklift and telehandler certification if not already certified. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based across two nearby yard locations and involves a mix of indoor and outdoor work. You will operate an enclosed-cab forklift and telehandler, but you will also work outside at times to unload trucks and strap loads on flatbeds. The role involves close collaboration with yard employees and truck drivers in a busy, hands-on environment. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with only very rare weekend work. The position may be structured as either direct placement or contract-to-hire, offering flexibility for both the company and the employee.
