Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a skilled Sewing Technician with experience operating industrial sewing equipment to fabricate soft goods designs from high-performance technical fabrics including aramid (Kevlar), carbon fiber, and related materials. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with precise construction requirements, can maintain and adjust industrial sewing equipment, and takes pride in consistent, high-quality workmanship. The term is intended to be 2-3 months total but with potential opportunities for ongoing work. Hours are expected to be 10-30 hours per week. Key Responsibilities Operate compound-feed industrial sewing machines to assemble multi-layer protective garment components according to technical drawings and work instructions Sew layups consisting of aramid, carbon fiber, and other high-performance fabrics, maintaining accurate seam placement, stitch density, and layer registration throughout Select appropriate needles, thread types, and machine settings for each material combination and adjust as needed to maintain stitch quality Perform routine machine maintenance including needle changes, tension adjustments, lubrication, and presser foot changes; identify and escalate mechanical issues as needed Inspect finished work against quality standards, checking stitch integrity, seam alignment, and overall construction before passing product to the next stage Handle and cut technical fabrics with appropriate care to minimize fraying, fiber disturbance, and material waste Follow all workplace safety protocols related to handling composite fabrics, including dust/particle precautions when working with carbon fiber or fiberglass materials Maintain a clean and organized workstation and log material usage and production quantities as required Required Skills and Experience Minimum 2-3 years of experience operating industrial sewing machines in a production environment Demonstrated experience with compound-feed (walking foot / unison feed) industrial machines; experience with brands such as Juki, Consew, Pfaff, or equivalent preferred Ability to sew accurately to marked lines and pattern guides on technical fabrics Working knowledge of thread types including bonded nylon, bonded polyester, and aramid (Kevlar) thread, and ability to match thread selection to application requirements Ability to independently adjust machine tension, stitch length, and needle selection based on material behavior Experience with heavy or technically demanding fabrics strongly preferred; prior work with aramid, ballistic, or cut-resistant materials is a significant plus Ability to read and follow written work instructions, assembly drawings, or construction specifications Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistent quality in a production setting Rates Jr. Sewing Technician w/ 1-3 yrs exp: $18-25/hr
