Job Title:
Press Operator - 3rd Shift - 24/hr Job Description This role operates large stamping presses to produce high-quality automotive components on 3rd shift. You will set up and run 2-500 ton presses, perform die and coil changes, use precision measuring tools to verify part quality, and follow strict safety and standard operating procedures in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Operate 2-500 ton stamping presses to produce transmission and other automotive components according to production requirements. Assist with press setup, including die changes, coil changes, and performing necessary adjustments for safe and efficient operation. Measure coils, read scales accurately, and ensure material is loaded and fed correctly into the press. Use overhead cranes safely to move materials, dies, and coils as needed; participate in future forklift training as required. Conduct regular quality checks on parts (approximately every 500 pieces) using micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify dimensions and quality. Monitor press performance and product output to ensure parts are produced to specification and identify issues quickly. Perform basic preventative maintenance tasks on presses as required to support reliable operation. Follow and understand all safety procedures and standard operating procedures, including lockout/tagout and equipment-specific guidelines. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift. Wear required personal protective equipment at all times, including steel/composite toe shoes, hard hat, eye protection, and ear protection. Collaborate with team members and leadership to meet production goals and support continuous improvement in safety and quality. Work overtime, extra days, and weekends when required to meet production demands, particularly during peak periods. Essential Skills At least 1 year of previous press operation experience with 2-500 ton stamping presses in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Experience in transfer or progressive die press operation. Hands-on experience in a manufacturing or industrial production setting. Ability to operate stamping presses safely and efficiently while meeting production targets. Proficiency using micrometers, calipers, and gauges for part inspection and quality checks. Ability to perform die changes, coil changes, and basic press setups. Capability to read and understand safety procedures and standard operating procedures. Comfort working overtime, including extra days and weekends, as required by production needs. Ability to wear required PPE (steel or composite toe shoes, hard hat, ear protection, eye protection) for the entire shift. Physical ability to work in a loud, industrial environment and handle the demands of press operation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience running a 500 ton stamping press. Progressive or transfer die press experience beyond the minimum requirements. Experience using overhead cranes in a production environment. General machine operation and machine tending experience in production settings. General labor experience in manufacturing or automotive facilities. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts. Willingness to cross-train and develop additional technical skills over time. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is for 3rd shift in a large automotive manufacturing facility with over 400 employees. Typical shift hours are 10:50 p.m. to 7:10 a.m. Training will most likely occur on 1st shift (6:50 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.) for about a week, or on a hybrid schedule involving 1st and 2nd shifts (2:50 p.m. to 11:10 p.m.) for a week. Overtime, extra days, and weekend work may be required, especially during busy periods such as late summer. The facility operates older but well-maintained machinery in a typical manufacturing environment that is loud and has noticeable industrial odors, such as rubber, but is well lit. The company manufactures a variety of automotive components, including fuel hoses, air conditioning hoses, turbo air hoses, water and vacuum hoses, mounts, transmission parts, suspension parts, and chassis parts. Steel or composite toe footwear is required on site, and dress attire consists of long pants and a t-shirt, with uniforms provided over time. All necessary PPE is supplied on site, and the environment places a strong emphasis on safety and proper protective equipment use. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bluffton, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.02 - $24.02/hr.
